Title: Spiritual Albums and songs
Post by: Niko on June 23, 2015, 12:15:43 PM
What are the most spiritual albums or songs?

Everyone is going to have their own personal definition of what makes a piece of music spiritual - many of the albums listed below I would also put on a favourite albums list without second thought. Is it because I like them so much and have developed a deep and personal connection that I would also consider them to be spiritual, or would many other hardcore music fans agree with my list?

PLEASE leave a list of your own.

The Beach Boys - Pet Sounds, Smile and Friends
Brian Wilson - No Pier Pressure
Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon
Love - Forever Changes
Zombies - Odessey and Oracle

What are the most spiritual albums or songs?

If spiritual can mean taking the listener to another place, one that immediately comes to my mind is Davd Crosby's If Only I Could Remember My Name.

Another is Trout Mask Repllca, although the world it transports me to is a little frightening at times.

As for songs, I'Il go for "I Only Have Eyes For You" by The Flamingos.

Beach Boys albums? Pet Sounds, to be sure, and side two of Surf's Up.
Songs? So many... Just one? "All I Wanna Do".

And pretty much every free jazz-influenced album i own .... Alice Coltrane, John Coltrane, Pharoah Sanders, Archie Shepp, Albert Ayler etc etc etc... :)

that whole scene was pretty spiritual, and it does it for me.

Earth Anthem-Turtles

Kaya [album] Bob Marley
Countryman version...Natural Mystic - Bob Marley

Hell's Bells...almost everything by Bob Marlley and the Wailers.  Try 'Pass It On'.   ... and pass it on.

Also Try Burning Spear and Culture.  Luciano.  Morgan Heritage.  Most Bunny Wailer material.

Someone once wrote something along the lines of [and obviously it was some time ago]...If every newspaper in the world printed the lyrics to a Bob Marley song on their front page EVERY DAY of the year...the world would be a much better place to live in.  That's the 'feeling' or gist of it at any rate.  And it's right...to Ras Clat!!!

In the name of his Imperial Majesty.... ... ... JAH RASTAFARI !!!!!!  Ever sure.

I would agree with a lot of the ones mentioned... as I've gotten a little older over the years, I've actually begun appreciating some of the more straight-up gospel stuff too... Connie Smith is a favorite, so her versions of these two are always fantastic:

Connie Smith - Amazing Grace

Thank you all for the responses. I'm listening through every song/album that has been posted and I've not been disappointed.
