Title: Brian's 1957 Chevy piano stage set up
Post by: Jay on June 23, 2015, 12:48:09 AM
In the book The Beach Boys In Concert, it talks about Brian having a piano in the body of a 1957 Chevy as part of the stage set up in the mid 1970's. Does anybody happen to have a picture of it?

I remember it was light green, sat on the right side of the stage and faced the band.

Thanks for that info.  ;D So, I take it you actually saw it in person?

Yeah... Edwardsville, IL, August 21, 1977.  Great show, with Brian in rare form.

Actually, that car shell may have been at Champaign, IL... November 19, 1977.  I saw both shows.  I think Brian was playing the large white grand piano in Edwardsville, in August.  Hard to remember.  I do recall being surprised.  It looked like he was sitting in a hot rod facing the stage.  Looked a bit silly as I remember.

Paul Revere of the Raiders used to play a piano keyboard shaped like an automobile for years and years when they played the Branson Missouri circuit. It's kind of cheezy but that's entertainment.

I remember thinking it looked kind of silly.  I liked Brian behind the big white grand piano... but it made him look like he was sitting in a little fake bumper car at Disney.

There are cut-up actual 1950s cars at a little cafe/diner inside of Fry's Electronics in Burbank, CA. I wonder if it was just like that type of repurposing. I only hope they used a car that was already totaled in some way, instead of cutting up a perfectly good one.

Where is Brian's 1957 Chevy piano today?

I wonder if Ed Roach might have possibly taken any photos of it?

Paul had a keyboard built into the dash of an Edsel, later a Mustang, and I thought it was super cool.
