Title: Ornette Coleman, 1930-2015
Post by: rn57 on June 11, 2015, 07:37:03 AM
The man who brought free jazz in is gone.  Not any direct connection to the guys I know of (though his career developed in LA during the years right before the BBs started, and Charles Lloyd was closely associated with him in those days). But he sure shook things up and his influence is felt in many musical areas besides jazz. RIP.

I could never get into Coleman's music myself but he evidently made a great impression on one of my heroes, Captain Beefheart, which puts me firmly in his debt. Rest in peace, sir.

An outstanding groove, just listen to that rhythm.

If anyone tried out Free Jazz and didn't like it, try this link instead.

That is one awesome track! Thanks for the link, Loaf. :=)

I see Coleman is all over Mike Barnes's Beefheart book. Must check that out later...
