Fantastic! Thanks for the link. "In just a few minutes" she says. Plug for Love and Mercy now. They are running a bit late.

BW's pantomiming on Runaway Dancer would make Cousin Mike proud! He's clearly having a blast.

Quite rough vocal-wise

No Probyn or Mikey in the band. Nelson on drums. Matt occasionaly on percussion and guitar.

This is very cool.

I haven't seen Brian THIS engaged an quite awhile. He's totally into it and looks happy to be there!  And Mertins playing the Theramin/Tannerin part to Good Vibrations on a flute/piccolo. A little different. And Matt with an acoustic in his hands in addition to percussion and the high parts. Good to see him back in the mix!

The camera angle, eh? Right there next to 'em on stage! Very cool.

Anybody know if this will be available for on-demand play?  I was teaching a class during this, unfortunately.

Wish I would have known about this when tickets were still available! I would have taken the day off work and went down. This is the first time since...I can remember...that information about a Brian appearance wasn't announced here well in advance of when it was happening.  :angry

I hope so! But it might take a couple of days I guess.

Here's a recap, but no recording that I've spotted so far.  http://thekey.xpn.org/2015/05/15/fan-brian-wilson-noncomm/

Some of the previous broadcast recordings are available, so we can hope and keep an eye out on the site.

Interested to hear Matt sing "She Knows Me Too Well." That seems to be the lead they toss the "falsetto guy" in the band now. Awesome song obviously, but I'm still hoping they spice up the upcoming tour setlist.

It's also interesting that they did "Runaway Dancer." I figured they probably wouldn't do that one on the upcoming tour without Simonian there, but now perhaps it seems they might.

Really nice to see Brian looking so happy and animated.

The band sound a little under-rehearsed but that is only natural.

Band does sound a bit rusty, but par for the course for a scaled-down one-off show.

Matt sounded good on "She Knows Me Too Well." Kinda weird hearing him sing it, but cool.

That's also the most guitar I've ever seen Matt play. Not sure if I've ever seen him pick up a guitar at a Beach Boys or Al show.

I agree that Matt sounds good but I would hope that if they only add a limited number of rarities at shows (which with 1 or 2 support acts seems likely) that they will be songs sung by Brian, Al or Blondie. I know Brian has already commented about performing Funky Pretty for example.

Runaway Dancer should not be performed imo.

Can you elaborate?  What did he say?

"Yeah!"

When asked in a Q&A if he wanted to add songs like Funky Pretty to the setlist this year.

Brian's voice is pretty rough.  I hope he sounds better when I see him in July, we all know how good he can sound.  Very pretty rendition of "Love and Mercy" though, he sounded pretty good there.  And the band did oddly seem a little off too though they are missing a few players (Mikey, Probyn, Al and Blondie of course).  Nothing a little more rehearsal can't fix.  But overall a nice little performance even if far from great.  At least Brian seemed like he was having a great time, it's really something to see him so engaged, moving his arms around and introducing songs to the audience.  Glad you're happy Bri. :)

Pretty much my thoughts.

I`m sure they will sound much better when they have the full band with them.

Like the Grammy performance in 2012, the sound live inside the room was better than the live feed that was broadcast, in my opinion. There were no seats on the floor, and I was front row, right up at the stage, so I could hear the amps and stuff "live" versus going through the house mix. Awesome to see Brian and the band that close.

Just another note: The band Calexico played the set before Brian, and they did a very cool thing: They dedicated their cover of Love's "Alone Again Or" to Brian. They have a trumpet player, and that song was/is a perfect match for them. Check them out too, they have a great Tex-Mex kind of hybrid sound going on. Oh, and they also played with less members than their usual live lineup, like a stripped-down version of the full stage band for this show/broadcast.

I don't know what you do Clack, but I work in the industry and see "what's floating" in 2015 -- I've found to my surprise that nobody behind the scenes gives a s  hit about the things music fans think music makers / labels /publishers give a sh*t about. I absolutely love the Byrds, I wish that catalogue was worked better, but a band like Love, or the Springfield is on nobody's radar (that I've found) other than their fans.

Just something that jumped out at me.  No disrespect meant to Howie.

Anyone know which model of Yamaha keyboard Brian is using here? Seems to be the same model he's primarily used since '99, but I've never been able to spot a model number on the thing, just the big Yamaha logo.

It's an older version of the Yamaha P200
