Title: Almost BB studio collaborations w/ other artists that never came to be
Post by: CenturyDeprived on May 11, 2015, 09:12:42 PM

Mike: Bart Simpson
Brian: Jeff Beck
Brian: Phil Spector w/Don't Worry Baby (though Phil did rewrite another Brian tune)

I know there are a bunch more... let's hear em!

The 2 artists left off NPP, Lana Del Rey and Frank Ocean. Do they count?

Beach boys not doing backing vox on one of Pink Floyd's The Wall tracks.

Arrrgh. I forgot about that bonehead move. At least Bruce snuck on there.
But geez, that was an asinine thing to have occurred.

I seem to remember reading "Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me" should have had the whole group rather than just Carl and Bruce?

Not exactly - the original session featured Dusty Springfield, Danny Hutton, Gerry Beckley, Cat Stevens, Bruce & Brian. This session was unproductive: the bvs on the released version are by Daryl Dragon, Toni Tennille, Billy Hinsche, Bruce & Carl. Both sessions took place before the end of February.

Terence Trent Darby on BW88.

Bob Dylan on the unreleased The Spirit of Rock and Roll.

Sting turned down the chance to appear on GIOMH as he was too busy. Robbie Williams turned it down saying, "He probably doesn`t even know who I am."

Al wanted Anthony Hopkins to do the reading of Tidepool Interlude. Al also said he was waiting for a Seattle band (I think that`s what he said) to provide vocals for California Dreamin` which is why it was not included on the first version of his solo album.

Isn't TTD credited on BW88? Backing vocals on Walkin the Line, i think?

And i don't know if the Seattle band in this case is the Fleet Foxes, but i sure wish Al and the FFs had recorded something together up at Red Barn.

Quite some talent there. In what way was it unproductive?

To quote Bruce, "I couldn't get a performance out of them: everyone was scared of everyone else".

I believe so but I think it was originally intended or rumoured to be a duet.

And The Wilson Project book suggests that Landy also wanted Brian to do duets with Madonna and the like until he was told, "You can`t do that or people will know what Brian is really like!" This was at the time when Brian was obviously still moving back into society and pungently farted into Marie Osmond`s face.

Wasn't there originally a fuller version of California Dreamin' on Al's website
