Title: Dennis' Last Chance
Post by: petsite on April 28, 2015, 11:15:58 PM
We all know that Carl was thinking about turning Dennis over to Landy at the beginning of 1984. The rumor was that Dennis was going to be lured to the Big Bear house that the Beach Boys would meet at for holidays, only it was going to be just Brian, Carl, Landy and some REALLY BIG dudes. If Dennis had made it that meeting, does anyone think he might have been saved. Yes we know what Landy did with Brian, but at least Dennis would have been sober for an extended period and might have been able to finally see beyond his prison. Remember to that Jim Guerio was also asking the Wilson family to be named Dennis' legal guardian at that time to also help get Dennis right.

I am going to put my 2 cents worth in right now. I think this is one time that the BB messed up. Dennis was aggressive, meaning that an aggressive response was necessary. If they really wanted to help Dennis, they should have pushed alot harder. When they say later "Hey, no one thought Dennis would ever DIE from this", that is just macho BS. Everyone can die. Everyone. As we all soon learned.

Well, if you read Brian's (Landy's) autobio, he basically blames Carl for Dennis' death. Carl did not want to deal with the issue until after the holidays. That's the kind of trash writing that made me wish I could have talked to that scumbag doctor face to face, 'you don't know how much Carl loved his brother'; the things said about Carl and the family in that book were just horrible. Of course we all wish Dennis had lived a lot longer, but he was ultimately the only one who could change his destiny. But I do kind of wish he had lived long enough to get into the Landy program; and then when he was cleaned up, and saw the abuse that was happening with Brian, just beaten the piss out of that sick doctor.

You can't help someone who doesn't want to be helped. Landy's techniques only worked on Brian because he was submissive by nature, Dennis would have just ended up being beaten to a pulp by Landy's thugs.

Dennis said on different occasions that he wasn't gonna live long. I think the important thing to remember is what he symbolized, he was the epitome of the ultimate rock star. The greatest there ever was. With brian as the brains and carl the soul dennis was the heart.

After reading Scott's book, which deals with Denny telling Scott in the early 80s that he (Denny) is dying of liver disease, one wonders if Denny was from that point on (post medical diagnosis) very tragically hellbent on a death wish. If he really, truly felt like he was irreversibly f*cked healthwise, maybe that was further reason for him to logically legitimize not caring any longer. So, so sad. I cannot imagine the family's anguish at wondering about all the what-ifs. Simply tragic.
