Title: The Beach Bowsers at Chuck E. Cheese's?
Post by: CenturyDeprived on April 09, 2015, 01:17:54 PM
According to a Wikipedia article on Chuck E. Cheese's, there used to be an animatronic group of dogs who would perform Beach Boys songs, called The Beach Bowsers. Did anyone witness this in person? Must've been super creepy. Ruff.

I wonder if the lyrics were changed to dog-related lyrics, if the songs were in fact sung by creepy robot dogs. Little Deuce Pooch and Dog Only Knows come to mind.

edit: Looks like I just answered my own question... It was just mere karaoke to the original recordings.

Now that I think about it, it's almost surprising the BBs never had their own Happy Meal.

I'm pretty sure I remember this from when I was a kid.  Good Vibrations & California Girls come to mind as being two of the songs that were performed.

He'd probably love regular Chuck E Cheese, too. Something tells me Smile-era Brian would hide himself in the tube maze and "make sandwiches".  :lol

Well we also know what kind of pizza he'd order.

Cheese pizza.

yes I have footage of them,,, they existed back in the late 70's early 80's and were taken down around the late 80's early 90's, during the "Golden Period" of Chuck E Cheese before it became a kids place, back then it was a family place,,,,there's also a "Beagles" version of the same robots that were the Beatles,,all they did was lip synch to Beach Boys and Beatle songs...they don't exist anymore....

.here's a youtube video of the Beach Bowzers

I remember this too, Eric, except I wasn't a kid ... I was taking my own kids!  I'd say around the late eighties to early nineties.  Somewhere I have video.  I remember that some Chuck E Cheeses had a character based on Elvis and some had characters based on the Beatles.  After a few years at a location they would swap them out and change locations.

Ah, reminds me of Showbiz Pizza Place, Mitzi, Billy Bob and the Rock-a-Fire Explosion. Didn't do BB covers per se (as I recall), but they sure did something that sounded a helluva lot like BB songs.

The Beach Bowsers were  part of the original Pizza Time Theater that evolved into Chuck E Cheeses. The original shows were more family oriented and less "Kiddy" than the current Chuck E Cheese. There were smaller "lounge" rooms that had smaller shows including The Beagles/Bowsers (which were the same fairly limited robots redressed) that performed over recordings of the Beatles and Beach Boys songs.

And Andrew, I'm surprised that you're familiar with the Rock-afire Explosion! Cause some of those guys are in my brothers basement: http://s1201.photobucket.com/user/Cynciemim/media/Rolfe%20and%20Earl%20Album/cynanrolfe.jpg.html?sort=6&o=17

The RAE was an actual cover band and they did all kinds of music, including Beach Boys and Beatles covers. (in fact, the polar bear is named Beach Bear as a tribute!)

If you're wondering, they're still working. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CsqKLT4v4x0&spfreload=10

I do vaguely remember these dogs, but can't say much regarding the exact nature of the lyrics (whether they were dog related or not).
on a side note:  i began, but never completed, a book (i was like 12 at the time) called The Beach Cats, about 5 different homeless cats from across the country that meet up in California and start a band....um, yeah, and yes, the songs were all changed to reflect the "catness" of it all....Friskies Safari, In My Catbox, Catch A Mouse, etc.    :p
I still have the drawings and would share an image or two, but have never figured out uploading images here (guess i'm dumb)....but anyway, back to Chuck E. Cheese..... ::)

That is awesome. And those do look like slightly demented Muppets.
