Title: Soundstage special premieres tonight! (for NY and NJ viewers) Post by: Rocky Raccoon on April 05, 2015, 06:09:17 PM Actually for me, it premieres ten minutes past midnight which is pretty weird scheduling but no big deal, I'll be awake! Pretty excited to see this. Just a little bit disappointed that it says the special will only be an hour long but I'm sure it will have a lot of great moments and hopefully the DVD will have the full show.
I made this thread for discussion/reactions about the show. :) Title: Re: Soundstage special premieres tonight! Post by: rn57 on April 05, 2015, 08:00:53 PM For Maryland viewers, the show is on the state's public TV channel this Friday (4/10) at 9 pm, rerun the following Tuesday at 5 am. (Should add that if you're in southern Pennsylvania, northern or parts of eastern Virginia, the West Virginia panhandle or Delaware, and your local public TV isn't carrying Soundstage, there's the option of getting out your old set that still has an antenna from the closet or whatever, hooking it up to an adapter, and tuning in one of the MPT stations, since they're all over the state.)

Title: Re: Soundstage special premieres tonight! (for NY and NJ viewers) Post by: Rocky Raccoon on April 05, 2015, 09:57:03 PM In addition to the concert footage, the special also includes footage of Brian and She & Him recording "On the Island" with the track overdubbed and an absolutely beautiful in-studio rendition of "God Only Knows" with Zooey singing lead. That was a nice surprise!
Full list of songs: 1. Our Prayer 2. Heroes and Villains 3. Good Vibrations 4. This Beautiful Day (featuring Mark Isham) 5. Runaway Dancer (featuring Sebu) 6. Don't Worry Baby (featuring Sebu) 7. Wild Honey (featuring Blondie Chaplin, Ricky Fataar, Billy Hinsche) 8. Sail On, Sailor (featuring Blondie Chapln, Ricky Fataar, Billy Hinsche) 9. Half Moon Bay (featuring Mark Isham) 10. Saturday Night (featuring Nate Ruess) 11. Hold On, Dear Brother (featuring Nate Ruess, Blondie Chaplin, Ricky Fataar) 12. On the Island (studio footage featuring She & Him) 13. Title: Re: Soundstage special premieres tonight! (for NY and NJ viewers) Post by: Rocky Raccoon on April 05, 2015, 10:40:01 PM I noticed Kacey Musgraves was listed in the end credits as a guest artist even though she wasn't in the TV special so we'll probably see studio footage of "Guess You Had to Be There" on the DVD.

(for NY and NJ viewers) Post by: stack-o-tracks on April 06, 2015, 12:39:48 AM I looked at the near future's PBS listings, didn't see squat about about this special, did a search for "sound", "soundstage", and "brian wilson", and there was none of that in my TV guide's future.
So yeah. I either missed it or this special doesn't exist and you're all not real people and none of this is real and I'm a part of some computer script that constitutes my entire existence. Title: Re: Soundstage special premieres tonight! (for NY and NJ viewers) Post by: HeyJude on April 06, 2015, 06:15:32 AM Thanks for doing the rundown for the full TV airing. I still think it’s weird that the “trailer” for the show included more than one song that isn’t in the TV edit (“Sail Away” and “Sloop John B”), but it may well be that the “trailer” is as much for the (hopefully relatively imminent) DVD release of the show.
Kind of weird, I think, to include two Sebu songs including “Don’t Worry Baby” but to leave out “Sail Away”, which came across quite well on the live clip as shown on YouTube. It seems like Sebu does fine doing his own “style”, as on “Runaway Dancer”, but that BrianFest video where he does “Help Me Rhonda” with Al didn’t come across too well. I get it, Sebu’s vocal style isn’t the same, but it just sounded kind of forced. Pleasantly surprised to see “Hold on Dear Brother” made the cut. I’m hoping the eventual DVD “bonus footage” amounts to something near the whole show and not just “Sail Away” and “Sloop John B.” Title: Re: Soundstage special premieres tonight! Good for you Amanda - WTTW is doing right - probably because they're also offering the DVD? Title: Re: Soundstage special premieres tonight! (for NY and NJ viewers) Post by: EgoHanger1966 on April 06, 2015, 09:46:52 AM The listing I see on my guide only slots a half an hour for the program (and has it listed as "Brian Wilson & Friends"). Hopefully it's just an error and not a chopped version of the special.

I've only heard him sing Runaway Dancer, a very different type of vocal, so was curious about his role. Title: Re: Soundstage special premieres tonight! Note for people with Apple TVs (and maybe similar products?), there is a PBS service on there that I believe shows Soundstages. Not sure if there is a major delay from airing to streaming, but it might be worth a look. Ditto for cable on-demand services, actually. Probably worth keeping an eye out after that first airing. Not sure about that. Her NPP tune is unavailable on Spotify as well. I think there may have been some sort of falling out. Title: Re: Soundstage special premieres tonight! Who knows how PBS stations schedule?...probably with the contribution campaigns or whatever. The good news is, the 19th is just 5 days before Brian's movie is at the Walker and then 6 days before the film festival debuts it as its grand finale, so...Not that either of these events need promotion. They've been sold out for some time. Title: Re: Soundstage special premieres tonight! I chose one, hit "record" and voila! I'll be watching it tonight.

Title: Re: Soundstage special premieres tonight! I just can't find this one yet!
Title: Re: Soundstage special premieres tonight! I found reruns on the AXS Music station, but that's it. Also, I haven't found it on New Jersey's NJTV, either. Glad I bought it from the Chicago PBS Station this past Tuesday night.
