Also not to slight his accomplishments, but I guess every local musician that has been part of a house orchestra that was hired to back up the Beach Boys at one of their symphonic shows could claim to have "played with the Beach Boys." As opposed to traveling with their own bands, both of them typically played gigs with pickup bands arranged by the promoters in the cities where they played.
