Title: Beach Boys & Beatles "collaborations"
Post by: shelter on February 12, 2015, 11:05:12 AM
The Beach Boys and The Beatles are IMO the two best bands ever. So I was wondering how many officially released songs there are that have creative input (either as a performer or as a songwriter) from at least one member of each band.

The Beach Boys - I Should Have Known Better (written by Lennon & McCartney)
The Beach Boys - Tell Me Why (written by Lennon & McCartney)
The Beach Boys - With A Little Help From My Friends (written by Lennon & McCartney)
The Beach Boys - You've Got To Hide Your Love Away (written by Lennon & McCartney)
The Beach Boys - California Calling (drums by Ringo Starr)
The Beach Boys - Back In The USSR (live, appeared on Fourth Of July LP) (written by Lennon & McCartney, drums by Ringo Starr)
Brian Wilson - A Friend Like You (guest vocals by Paul McCartney)
Brian Wilson - Wanderlust (written by McCartney)

Up for debate:
The Beach Boys - Vegetables (Smile Sessions version) - I'm still not sure if McCartney actually did or didn't participate in the "percussive chewing" (or even if this song should count if he did)
The Beach Boys - Imagine (live) - I know they played it live for a while, but I don't think any version has ever been officially released anywhere?
The Beatles - Back In The USSR - Brad Elliott lists Mike Love as a co-writer, but of course he didn't officially co-write it and I don't think that merely giving a suggestion should count as co-writing

Any others?

I'm very fond of Jan & Dean's live cover of I Should Have Known Better on the COMMAND PERFORMANCE LP.

And extremely fond of all of their Beatle Part of Our Portion parody on the original mix of the FILET OF SOUL comedy album.  That same album also included Deadman's Curve, which Brian co-wrote.  Does that count?

Didn't the Beach Boys sing happy birthday to Mike Love? I believe it was played on the radio by Wolf Man Jack??

Interesting that Ringo backed the Beach Boys on drums on one of the few Beatles songs that Paul played drums on.
