Title: Strange Beach Boys release at Walmart in Canada
Post by: Joel Goldenberg on February 11, 2015, 11:56:10 AM
Maybe somebody can explain this. I was under the impression that the European copyright laws were changed a while ago so that public domain status only takes place 70 years after a song is released, and no longer 50 years. And yet, there's a Beach Boys compilation at Walmart in Canada called Fun Fun Fun which has a mix of tracks from 1962 to 1964, with the newest track being When I Grow Up (To Be A Man). Even stranger, the disc is said to be manufactured in the U.S. and is not licensed by Capitol/Universal. The CD is put out by a company called Stargrove Entertainment. Walmart also has two Beatles CDs from this same company, also including tracks from '64, and they're certainly not licensed by Apple. Wonder what's going on.
