For those who don't know, Mike said this on his facebook

I was just hangin out at home, sitting down soon for dinner and I decided to cruise Smiley Smile.....I stumbled on this photo.....Electrifying! Who came up this one?? I really dig it! Peace...ML

Honestly, that changes things for me. The idea of Mike sitting at home just before dinner, surfing smiley smile on his ipad reading all the awful things said about him on here is a bit of a bummer  :(

From now on I shall show Mike more of the love he deserves on this board, and I hope you all do the same. After all if it wasn't for him, we may not be here.

He probably expects it at this point.  I hope he looks at some of what we say about him and just laughs.



Not surprised he would read this board.  It certainly gets a lot more activity than the MikeLove.com forum.

I would guess he does. He's got the huge bank account, several houses and world travel. I'm sure he's laughing at us.

I would hope the idea that Mike might read the board doesn't change how anyone posts.

And I would hope that--in addition to Mike laughing at us--anyone here with half a brain laughs at us.

Kudos to Mike for mentioning it, and kudos for stomaching some of the grief that's dealt out on here. My respect for him has grown considerably in the last few years.

I said to him when we were shootin' the sh*t just before the pic was taken..."you know we've met after the 'show' several times over the years.  I've even MC'd about a half dozen of your concerts...but I would expect over that time frame that you've probably met about 10,000 MCs and at least  1/2 a million fans."  Mike agreed that THAT was pretty much the case.  Not a problem.  But now ... ... ... with the captioning under the picture?  I'm golden.

I have nothing to be afraid of really.  I like Mike. He has a certain quality to him that I like. I like all of them actually. I can't say it's equal for everyone,  but I don't hate any of them. Far from it. I hope I don't come across as a kiss ass. Hahaha

He has a great sense of humor. I'm sure he has a good time reading this.

I don't think Mike reading the board should affect what we post. Of course we should always be respectful, but we should also feel free to express our opinions. That's what the board is for, in addition to sharing facts/news/history.

I think all of you guys should post keeping foremost in your mind that Michael Edward Love is squinting really hard at your posts on an iPad with his cold, insect eyes probing for weakness and keeping a list... checking it twice, he's gonna find out who's been naughty and who gets... uh... Bud Light.

He knows what you're thinking. He even knows what you said about Wings on that one thread. He hears your whispers at night. Sometimes Bruce Johnston is dispatched like Igor to do his master's bidding, creeping up by your windows and listening for any jokes about Full House as he shambles along on his dark moonlit missions.

Well, either that or someone just forwarded his people a pic from Smiley Smile.

I would think that Mike would be thrilled with this board than most others.  Over all, there is a lot more fairness here. Most other boards, if you post anything positive about Mike Love, everyone would call you an idiot. There is enough Mike supporters on here to bring balance. Am I wrong?

Don't doubt for a minute that everyone connected to The Beach Boys at one time or another reads this board. The people who are The Beach Boys and their families have feelings and can be really hurt by thoughtless sniping here. I am not asking people to censor themselves, but I am asking folks to put yourselves in their place and think about what you say. We are humans with feelings first.

Agreed Peter, but it's up to the mods to enforce respectful behavior.

And I think they are doing a great job. It's impossible to stop every stupid remark before they occur. And of course a successful board has to balance out the freedom of ones own opinion with what is unnecessary. I definitely don't want that job!

With Ray, Debbie, Loren and now Mike showing up (admittedly not posting, that we know of), the SS board has really entered a new phase. Not sure if that's good or bad, but it most certainly is changing rapidly. And a new BW album is almost upon us, too!

I will surely not change my way of posting as I don't think I strayed away from Peter Reum's recommendations. There's ways to criticize people in a reasonable and respectful way, and one should mention the good things people do, too. I think I did both.

Not the real Magic Transistor Radio though! Maybe I will open up another account and go by Bubbly Waves. Then we can really get confused!

Well, this is the key, isn't it? We can be honest and critical in a reasonable way. Using tact in no way muzzles any of us. We can be honest without calling names. I try not to post anything that I wouldn't say to their faces. I think the only person I have called a despicable excuse for a human being is Eugene Landy. If the opportunity had presented, I would have said it do his face as well, so my point stand.

YAY Peter!!!  Hi Mike!!!  Mike,  Happy 2015 to you and your family.  Yes, Peter is right about putting ourselves in the shows of the Beach Boys who post here and their families.  I won't pretend it doesn't scare me that they read our posts.  I will be careful of what I say here in the future. 

Apparently we now have both Mike and Brian reading this board. They could write a new song exchanging ideas via PM.

Yeah, Mike could get some tips from BW on how to get a solo album deal and how to get his arrangements commercial-sounding enough.

I think Mike would insist on using the room. ;D

In all seriousness tho, it's an interesting time to be on this board, and that's an understatement. I can't think of anything more exciting than the man himself coming to check things out.

How about Al Jardine going back to wearing pilgrim hats? Admit it, that would be pretty exciting too.

I think its safe to say that the majority of the Mike Love negativity on here is a mixture of fair criticism and ribbing. I don't think many diehards have genuine malice towards him. At least I hope not, given he's spent the vast majority of his life on sharing the music we all love.

I would agree. We criticize all of them for the faults but recognize that they're human and the pros outweigh the cons. I don't think anyone here genuinely hates Mike.

I can think of two posters right away who do.

I'm sure Mike is more the Santa type "watching us" than the NSA type "watching us", after all he's given us gifts like "Big Sur".

Now that Brian is on here, I am jonesing for a Brian-Mike banter thread.

I was at the Sydney Beach Boys 50th Anniversary concert and I can tell you Mike still can carry a show up front. That was a professional show put on by outstanding entertainers who would put people half their age to shame.

Pretty much a waste of time and energy isn't it?  And very likely NOT any good for their own health either.  The Beach Boys have ALWAYS been the sum of their parts.  And the warantee is running out.  Hate THAT.

You'd have to seriously consider the possibility that having kept it up for several years here and on other media platforms, there's a degree of mental instability. It's a well-known fact that I hate Morrissey with a passion (his very image churns my stomach), but not enough to feel impelled to make that distaste - hatred, actually - the central tenet of my cyber presence, and to inform roughly 90% of my posts.

It's something to think about... I hope though that Mike has thick skin for all his years in the public eye, and I hope that he realizes that in general, most of those who have had strong words for him still love the man and his music very much; they just perhaps disagree with things they've heard or seen over the years.  The criticism seems to come out the most but the only reason folks are here is because of their immense love for the band, certainly that includes Mike. 

Personally of course I'm a big fan of Mike :)

He doesn't seem to strike me as wounded by it all.

I would imagine he's a tough SOB.  The folks that get the most upset and verbal at him probably are acting or speaking under false assumptions, and knowing the whole story he probably just laughs about it like some others have said.

I do some part time work at a radio station and we were sent a copy of this guy's album despite the fact that it doesn't really fit our format.  Needless to say, I did a major double take when I glanced over to the side of the console to see a new cd by Mike Love!!
