Title: What would you include on a Best of the Seventies compilation? Post by: Please delete my account on January 12, 2015, 02:30:39 AM Further to what I wrote here in the proposed Brother Records bonus tracks thread:
I was thinking, what if a disc of the best of this stuff was issued as disc 2 of a two disc "best of the seventies" compilation? Disc one would be full of stuff the Beach Boys are really proud of, to counterbalance the stuff they're embarrassed by on disc two. I would have thought that would be considered commercially viable, especially as the seventies stuff seems to have got a bit of a critical reappraisal recently. here's what I'd put on disc one (only using stuff officially released at the time) 1 Sail On, Sailor 2 The Night Was So Young 3 All I Wanna Do 4 This Whole World 5 Forever 6 Feel Flows 7 It's OK 8 You Need A Mess of Help to Stand Alone 9 Honkin' Down the Highway 10 Disney Girls (1957) 11 Trader 12 I'll Bet He's Nice 13 All This Is That 14 Funky Pretty 15 My Diane 16 Good Timin' 17 Love Surrounds Me 18 'Til I Die 19 Surf's Up Title: Re: What would you include on a Best of the Seventies compilation? Post by: luckyoldsmile on January 12, 2015, 09:22:38 AM I'd love to get the "single version" of "Cuddle Up" on a comp.
The shorter version of "Here Comes the Night" could be fun ... maybe. And I always love "Goin' On." Your picks all work for me. Title: Re: What would you include on a Best of the Seventies compilation? Post by: joshferrell on January 12, 2015, 09:28:38 AM yeah they need to put all the single mixes on there... so I would go for a re-issue of Ten Years of Harmony with the Single mixes as bonus tracks,,,(both stereo and mono mixes)

Post by: Jim V. on January 12, 2015, 03:02:52 PM So I assume we are doing released in the '70s and not recorded...
Anyways, here goes.... 1 "This Whole World" 2 "All I Wanna Do" 3 "Cool, Cool Water" 4 "'Til I Die" 5 "Surf's Up" 6 "Feel Flows" 7 "All This Is That" 8 "Marcella" 9 "Sail on, Sailor" 10 "California Saga: California" (single version) 11 "Funky Pretty" 12 "Rock and Roll Music" (single version) 13 "It's OK" (single version) 14 "Roller Skating Child" 15 "The Night Was So Young" 16 "Wontcha Come Out Tonight" 17 "Good Timin'" 18 "Angel Come Home" 19 "Baby Blue" I'd likely add in some stuff from Made In California or whatever, but I guess this was limited to stuff actually released in the '70s. So there you go. Title: Re: What would you include on a Best of the Seventies compilation? Yeah, the Beach Boys recorded so many songs it gives you a lot of flexibility to "fit in" just the right song for the right sequence. Title: Re: What would you include on a Best of the Seventies compilation? Post by: donald on January 12, 2015, 04:44:44 PM how about an 80's 90's comp? Include solos material with it and it is a nice set. Again, the BB did not end with Holland.
Title: Re: What would you include on a Best of the Seventies compilation? Post by: Lee Marshall on January 12, 2015, 04:51:11 PM No they did not. Neither did they flourish...and heading into the 80s they almost imploded. There have been many great songs...just, until Smile and TWthe man n the skyMTR...no GREAT albums.
