Clean out your ears!
The Capitol Years is a 4-CD box set (106 tracks) released in 1999 which documents The Beach Boys' career with Capitol Records. It was originally released in 1980 as a 6-LP boxed set, including an LP of Brian Wilson's non-Beach Boys productions for Capitol. Title: Re: Capital Years CD Post by: metal flake paint on January 08, 2015, 09:20:48 PM Bought my Australasian copy not long after purchasing 20 Golden Greats. I listened to it for months on end, absorbing both the music and Peter Reum's notes; a great musical education.
It's also probably one of the few BB compilations that includes "Never Learn Not To Love." Title: Re: Capital Years CD Post by: bgas on January 08, 2015, 09:29:55 PM Hmmm, I'm missing the Australian LP set, but I have the LPs from UK and Japan.
Also have the UK cassette issue with ethe BW Productions. These seem to have been made without the BW Productions: 6 cassette Australian booklet, a 4 Cassette Australian, and a 4 cassette Readers Digest ( N.S.W.) Australian. I guess they didn't make any 8-track sets... Title: Re: Capital Years CD Post by: Mikie on January 08, 2015, 09:58:23 PM Bought my Australasian copy not long after purchasing 20 Golden Greats. I listened to it for months on end, absorbing both the music and Peter Reum's notes; a great musical education. It's also probably one of the few BB compilations that includes "Never Learn Not To Love." And also the first time the single mixes of "Be True To Your School" and "Cottonfields" were included on an LP (the later was also included on Euro copies of Sunflower of course) Also included were "You're Welcome" and "Auld Lang Syne" (without Dennis' narrative). And the Dutch mix of "Bluebirds Over The Mountain" with prominent percussion up front. And only the second time "Break Away" was on an album after SOA in '75. I gravitated right away to the Brian Wilson Productions album. 17 songs of Brian Wilson Productive bliss. I think all of the albums in the set were pressed on thick virgin vinyl. If not, it sure seemed like it. Sonically the mono and stereo tracks sound beautiful! Originally manufactured in the UK on World Records, a subsidiary of EMI, and also in Australia and Japan fo sho. If you didn't have all these rare singles in the collection, this #7 BW Productions album in the set was the one to own. Around the early 2,000's, the Brian Wilson Productions disc was available for sale separately. Title: Re: Capital Years CD Post by: job on January 09, 2015, 08:51:15 AM .

Title: Re: Capitol Years CD Post by: LeeDempsey on January 09, 2015, 10:19:52 AM Surfer, I would like to know more details about this "Capitol Years" CD you have (I'm assuming it is "Capitol" like the record label, and not "Capital" like the economic term). I collect Beach Boys CDs, and the only "Capitol Years" that I'm aware of is the 4-CD (or 6-LP) boxed set that is referenced by the other posters above. A quick Google search doesn't turn up any one-CD release called "Capitol Years." If you can, please post a picture of the cover, or the catalog number that runs down the spine of the CD case.

Title: Re: Capital Years CD Post by: Custom Machine on January 10, 2015, 12:45:55 AM To the best of my knowledge, one thing really unique about The Capitol Years 4 CD set is that it is the only CD release containing the Duophonic versions of numerous BB songs.

I feel in the dark… and it's more than a tad annoying to open a thread to discover that the latest pearl of wisdom is nothing more than a dot. I find that very annoying! I've seen threads (particularly in the sandbox) where there are several posts in a row presenting nothing more than a dot (and usually all the same person). I was starting to wonder if this was one of those trendy "+1" type deals! But it's nice looking. Here's a copy on Ebay: http://www.ebay.com/371072700537 |
