Hope Sandoval's voice is aural acid. A VASTLY underrated band.

My favorite moment was seeing them at the Roxy, and they were in the middle of Into Dust, one of their quietest, most hushed and beautiful tunes, and these two dumb bimbos behind started chattering at top volume about some bullshit.
I turned around and SCREAMED, "WILL YOU TWO SHUT YOUR FUCKING MOUTHS!!!", which echoed throughout the place, unwittingly making me the disturbance I was attempting to quell.
Great show, great band.

Although impossible to find, check out "Early Recordings" by the David Roback band that Mazzy Star evolved from: Opal. Also essential is the "covers" album that lead to Opal's formation: "Rainy Day"

"Fade Into You" is probably my favorite 90's single. And my love for this tune is cut with blistering nostalgia, of course, seeing that it's release dropped the year I discovered music, but I also believe it has the ability to make a person suspire for something from the very first listen. I had not yet experienced love or even the mere affection of girls when this song made ghostly rounds on MTV, so the song  naturally concerned me and revealed in rare 4 minute doses how serious and how moving love and also, music could be. I was starting an interesting journey and I was an ill-prepared traveler.

I agree on 'Into Dust' tough! A beautiful piece of music.

Wonderfully used in the 90's teen girl-gang pic Foxfire, where the song underscores a scene of half-naked girls tatooing each other by candlelight!

So much better than the 'shoegazer band' tag they're usually given........Among My Swan is still stunning....so open and deep........and Hope's solo album from 2001 is pure heaven. Hope there's still more to come from her.

What's the song of theirs on the "Stealing Beauty" soundtrack my sister has?  That's a fucking great song, I thought Mazzy Star was her name.

Personally, I love "star gazer" and "shoe gazer" genres...   Great chillout music ;)

If you like that, I would recommend all 3 of their great albums to you, She Hangs Brightly, So Tonight That I May See, and Among My Swan. You would really love them!

I lost mine to Madonna's Borderline, so I nearly always shed a tear when hearing that song.

I had a girlfriend who was a virgin, and she desperately wanted not to be. I actually delayed it for a week so I could decide on the best CD to play, because I wanted it to be perfect for her! I eventually chose some Throwing Muses and Bonnie Raitt.

Heh, tha's very sweet...  I was at one point thinking "Let's Go Away For Awhile"... but to climax during "Sloop John B" would be horrid ;)

Mazzy Star is one of those bands that I've been meaning to check out for what... 12-15 years now, but I never get around to it. However, I do love and cherish the album and EPs Hope Sandoval and the Warm Inventions put out.
