Title: Mazzy Star Post by: Jason on January 02, 2006, 01:52:05 PM Hope Sandoval's voice is aural acid. A VASTLY underrated band.
Title: Re: Mazzy Star Post by: I. Spaceman on January 02, 2006, 01:55:01 PM My favorite moment was seeing them at the Roxy, and they were in the middle of Into Dust, one of their quietest, most hushed and beautiful tunes, and these two dumb bimbos behind started chattering at top volume about some bullshit.
I turned around and SCREAMED, "WILL YOU TWO SHUT YOUR FUCKING MOUTHS!!!", which echoed throughout the place, unwittingly making me the disturbance I was attempting to quell. Great show, great band. Title: Re: Mazzy Star Post by: trumpet sounds on January 02, 2006, 07:57:03 PM Hope Sandoval's voice is aural acid. A VASTLY underrated band. Although impossible to find, check out "Early Recordings" by the David Roback band that Mazzy Star evolved from: Opal. Also essential is the "covers" album that lead to Opal's formation: "Rainy Day" Title: Re: Mazzy Star Post by: no on January 02, 2006, 09:12:03 PM "Fade Into You" is probably my favorite 90's single. And my love for this tune is cut with blistering nostalgia, of course, seeing that it's release dropped the year I discovered music, but I also believe it has the ability to make a person suspire for something from the very first listen. I had not yet experienced love or even the mere affection of girls when this song made ghostly rounds on MTV, so the song naturally concerned me and revealed in rare 4 minute doses how serious and how moving love and also, music could be. I was starting an interesting journey and I was an ill-prepared traveler.

Title: Re: Mazzy Star Post by: peerke on January 02, 2006, 11:12:46 PM They like their Velvet Underground a lot, don't they?
I agree on 'Into Dust' tough! A beautiful piece of music. Title: Re: Mazzy Star Post by: I. Spaceman on January 02, 2006, 11:55:33 PM Wonderfully used in the 90's teen girl-gang pic Foxfire, where the song underscores a scene of half-naked girls tatooing each other by candlelight!
Title: Re: Mazzy Star Post by: rob68 on January 03, 2006, 12:23:46 AM So much better than the 'shoegazer band' tag they're usually given........Among My Swan is still stunning....so open and deep........and Hope's solo album from 2001 is pure heaven. Hope there's still more to come from her.
Title: Re: Mazzy Star Post by: Matinee Idyll on January 03, 2006, 01:51:16 AM What's the song of theirs on the "Stealing Beauty" soundtrack my sister has? That's a fucking great song, I thought Mazzy Star was her name.
Personally, I love "star gazer" and "shoe gazer" genres... Great chillout music ;) Title: Re: Mazzy Star Post by: I. Spaceman on January 03, 2006, 02:04:39 AM That was Rhymes Of An Hour.
If you like that, I would recommend all 3 of their great albums to you, She Hangs Brightly, So Tonight That I May See, and Among My Swan. You would really love them! Title: Re: Mazzy Star Post by: Matinee Idyll on January 03, 2006, 02:07:32 AM Sets a real mood... Terribly beautiful that, Thanks Ian.
I'd love to lose my virginity to that song... That, or "Whole Lotta Love" :o Title: Re: Mazzy Star Post by: I. Spaceman on January 03, 2006, 02:16:10 AM Your openness and honesty is refreshing!
I lost mine to Madonna's Borderline, so I nearly always shed a tear when hearing that song. I had a girlfriend who was a virgin, and she desperately wanted not to be. I actually delayed it for a week so I could decide on the best CD to play, because I wanted it to be perfect for her! I eventually chose some Throwing Muses and Bonnie Raitt. Title: Re: Mazzy Star Post by: Matinee Idyll on January 03, 2006, 02:32:53 AM Heh, tha's very sweet... I was at one point thinking "Let's Go Away For Awhile"... but to climax during "Sloop John B" would be horrid ;)
Title: Re: Mazzy Star Post by: I. Spaceman on January 03, 2006, 02:37:09 AM Yeah, right when Brian sings "Then he took and he ate up all of my corn...".
Title: Re: Mazzy Star Post by: Matinee Idyll on January 03, 2006, 02:56:58 AM * shudders *
Title: Re: Mazzy Star Post by: Beckner on January 03, 2006, 12:22:03 PM Quote I'd love to lose my virginity to that song... That, or "Whole Lotta Love" No way dude! It's gotta be "Immigrant Song" if only for "Valhalla I am coming!" and um, Mazzy Star! woot woot! Title: Re: Mazzy Star Post by: Toby on January 03, 2006, 07:02:48 PM Mazzy Star is one of those bands that I've been meaning to check out for what... 12-15 years now, but I never get around to it. However, I do love and cherish the album and EPs Hope Sandoval and the Warm Inventions put out.
