Seriously, the best of the BW-influenced bands in my opinion.

Every album was different, all wonderful.
Their best work was not Psychocandy IMO, it was the incredible Stoned And Dethroned.
I would say they're a lot more Velvets-influenced than BB-influenced.

Wasn't every band that came after the Velvet Underground influenced by them?

PARTICULARLY J&MC, Spacemen 3 and REM.

Poo poo on Rhapsody's music service for not having any Spacemen 3, I'm stuck listening to their online radio station for rare glimpses into Spacemen 3.

The Mary Chain changed my life. Seriously.

And I don't think their best thing is Psychocandy, either. For me its the exquisite "Darklands." Without it, I would not have ever continued on with the guitar.

Darklands is, indeed, incredible.
And, for me, the best ever singles LP collection, besides Meaty Beaty Big And Bouncy, is Barbed Wire Kisses.

Anyway, I own Psychocandy and really like it. I have mp3s of other stuff but I've never listened to it, so maybe I will someday.

My favorite Mary Chain album is actually "Honey's Dead". By the way, I've DJ:ed a couple of times and if you want people to leave the room, nothing clears the floor as fast as "Upside Down" :-)

And they ended on a pretty nice note - "I Hate Rock'n''Roll" was a brilliant single.

So... are you a Sonic Boom or Jason Spaceman fan? Somebody needs to kick Sonic's ass for being the lazy songwriter he is but I sometimes favor Spectrum to Spiritualized, even though Spiritualized over all has made better records. Still, Jason Pierce never topped Sonic Boom's "How You Satisfy Me" single, no matter how many gospel choirs and symphony orchestras he hires.

They did another album after I Hate Rock And Roll. Was that song on the last LP too?
Honey's Dead is indeed an incredible album.
After Spacemen, I'm mainly a Jason fan, as Ladies And Gentlemen is one of my favorite LP's. But I like them both. In Spacemen they spurred each other to insane heights.
Probably the only band other than the Runaways I'd like to see reform.

The only Jesus and Mary Chain song I've ever heard is, uh, Surfin' USA.. and in terms of whether or not that was BW/BB-influenced, I'd have to say most likely. I don't know, maybe a little Chuck Berry, too.

Yeah. I dig 'Munki' - that one was way overlooked. And 'Cracking Up' def. counts among the very best Mary Chain singles.

Spiritualized have been dead since after 'Ladies...' came out. Can't stand what they've done since. Weak.
Spectrum's 'Soul Kiss/Glide Divine' is easily the best record made by an ex-Spaceman. Amazing album. Neither 'Lazer...' or 'LAGWAFIS' came close, imo.

A god-damned unbelievable band. One of my all-time favorites. MY favorite is "Darklands" -- an astonishing collection of songs, as dark as "Psychocandy" but with less sonic sludge. Perfectly produced.

Though everything they did was great -- I agree "Stoned and Dethroned" was way happening.

I MISS THEM -- what the hell, are the Reid brothers just shooting up these days, or what?

blah-de-blah, oh dear i sound like a snob, but the I Hate Rock N Roll single and its b-sides and the b-sides to Come On are really great.
They carry on the sound of Stoned And Dethroned but with the noise back.

Probably my fave, too. Certainly the record I'd give to newcomers as an intro to the group.

I liked the Lazycame stuff William was doing. That was a few years back, though.
Jim had his Freeheat thing going after the J&MC ended, never got to hear any of that.
