Title: SMiLE -- Olivio Frut Mix (is up again!) Post by: Olivio on May 26, 2006, 11:07:46 AM I'm sorry I didn't finish this during the University heyday, but I hope Bobby don't shut me down for this one. I'm proud to give you what is probably the most radical Smile interpretation out there (well, at least to my knowledge) and I'm extremely eager to know what you think of it!

Title: Re: Olivio Frut Label Post by: pavlos brenos on May 26, 2006, 06:11:19 PM Good one, Olivio! What the world needs now is an official SMiLE Sessions DVD-ROM with interactive capability so that people can make their own mix. A software program can be included so that every time you play the disc a completely new mix is created. Very sensible idea (and the appropriate parties will get lots of royalties, as such a disc would sell heaps).

Title: Re: SMiLE -- The Olivio Frut Label Post by: Olivio on May 30, 2006, 05:16:55 PM I'll just cross my fingers that he'll like it if he hears it... I've been getting some questions about added material in this mix, just wanted to say that every piece of sound is from the 66-67 sessions. By the way, is this the Spector smiley? ----> 8)
EDIT: Actually, one piece of snoring is from the a capella version of I Went To Sleep, and the Surf's Up coda is from the '71 version. How close he came to succeeding, I don't know. Craig Title: Re: SMiLE -- The Olivio Frut Label Post by: runalot on May 30, 2006, 06:03:12 PM DLing.
Who did the art work? Title: Re: SMiLE -- The Olivio Frut Label Post by: Olivio on June 04, 2006, 05:26:28 AM I did. After all the hours that went into the mixing I figured I might as well go all the way... :3d
I just reposted the files so they're now available for download again. Title: Re: SMiLE -- The Olivio Frut Label Post by: PMcC on June 04, 2006, 03:26:08 PM Why do I keep having download problems with #1, pray tell? All of the others were saved admirably, but file #1 just sits there. (gee, I hope it's nothing important) That would be a stupid thing to say, so I'm not going to say it, just think it. I cannot wait to hear your vision of Smile, and comment on your efforts, if I could only get that mo fo file #1 to download...
Title: Re: SMiLE -- The Olivio Frut Label Post by: Olivio on June 04, 2006, 04:57:18 PM Fixed!

Title: Re: SMiLE -- The Olivio Frut Label Post by: PMcC on June 05, 2006, 12:58:13 PM ...listening to it now, and it is awesome. Great continuity, and I love the edits, mixing and the way you stacked sounds to create something new. This is the most radical mix I've heard since DJ MicLove, and I like them both, and I also like the released sequence. Which proves: The music in its parts is so good, you can arrange them in many different ways, and it will still be a fine listening experience. I think that may very well be the Smile of the future (and a great idea for a box set) Everybody will one day have their own hand made Smile. Sell it like a box of Leggos. "here are all the little parts, now you put em together and make something great out of it" What a great marketing opportunity. No other work of art to my knowledge has ever been arranged and re-arranged as many times as Smile.
Title: Re: SMiLE -- The Olivio Frut Label Post by: cta on June 07, 2006, 11:37:10 AM Bah! Sucks I'm at work! I'll have to remember to get on my PC when I get home and check this out.
Kinda hard to remember since my PC has about an inch of dust on it from non-usage. Come on, the last thing you want to see is a computer when you get home after being in front of one 10 hours a day.
