I got a gift certificate to a local music shop, and treated myself to Springsteen's "Tracks".

Great pick, one of the great box sets, and the best Springsteen release of all time, artistically.

Also got a voucher to use at HMV, went up town today to get The Band box set but they didn't have it. Spent an hour or two wandering around but decided to wait rather than spend it on lots of smaller stuff. Frustrating though! Could have got CD versions of all my Zeppelin and Fairport stuff that I still only have on vinyl.....oh well. Did get a few things, would recommend the new Ryan Adams CD - 29 - bravo to the only artist with the guts to release a new album the week before Xmas!

13 is the best Blur album, for me.
That's a booty-bounty, brother, I'm sure you'll be diggin' that stuff mightily.

Cool, just remember to swich to Disc 2 after A Quick One, listen to the whole thing, then start Disc 1 up again with Summertime Blues.
The original set, the way the Who programmed it, is the only way to truly appreciate that bit of history.

My pal made me an extra neat-o Bongwater comp. Ann Magnuson is a goddess.

No new music for me. No one knows what to get me! All the 'normal' people in my family are confused by my musical tastes!  ;D
Mom gave me $200 toward the purchase of an iPod! That'll be schweet!  8)

It's been great listening, and I'll agree -- 13 is the best Blur stuff I've heard so far.  I like how it combines some really lose songs with tight stuff like "Coffee and TV."

Yes, I believe that was the first album where Damon backed up his big talk with some really original and experimental sounds.
I have to admit, that Gorillaz album is tight. Demon Days is wonderful.

Allen Toussaint - The Complete Warner Recordings (RhinoHandmade)
Four Horsemen Of The Apocalypse - Original Soundtrack (RhinoHandmade)
The Faces - Five Guys Walk A Bar... (greatest box-set ever?)

I was just going to ask you about that, because I think Demon Days is all over 13.  You can hear him playing with the Gorillaz style on a few tracks.  I'm glad you like it.  And I agree.  I love stuff like Parklife, but it's obvious they are imitating (greatly) the past few decades of British pop music.  You can hear Duran Duran ("Girls and Boys"), the Kinks ("Parklife"), Roxy Music ("Clover Over Dover"), XTC, etc.  13 does go off in its own direction, like you say.  Very sweet stuff.  I like hearing them try to absorb American "indie" rock.

I'd love to hear your complete thoughts on Demon Days.

Separate Ways - Teddy Thompson
Martha Wainwright - Marta Wainwright

The Evening Of My Best Day - Rickie Lee Jones

Not bad, he!
What do you think?

You got it, brother. I shall listen again and collect my thoughts to try to give it proper justice, as you already have very eloquently.

That's usually the case with me too! My tastes are so specialized, most of the music I like can't be bought in a normal music store (usually only found on Amazon or Ebay).

The week BEFORE Christmas my daughter and I visited a really cool new and used campus music store in another city.

We walked out with CDs by Dressie Bessie, Olivia Tremor Control,  Apples in Stereo, and BW88.  Also purchased was SMiLE on vinyl.

Christmas came a week early on those.

For Christmas, one  daughter got an MP3 player, one got an IPOD Nano, and I got the new Goldmine Record Collectors reference 1950-1975.

That new IPOD is about the size and thickness of a credit card folded in half.  Unbelievable.  No longer much of a need for portable CD players.  I guess the next step is to replace that cord to the earplugs with a small wireless transmitter.

And I remember 8 tracks as the great development in portable music...lol

I've said it before and I'll say it again...there's some kinda 'Pet Sounds' vibe I get from 'Pinkerton'. Those two albums are really connected for me.

Well, Pinkerton is one of those "radical left turns" that we love about music.

13 is great. Probably the only album I bought the day it came out. Listened to it three times in a row. Loved it then and love it now. I like Trailerpark.
