I just bought it at barnes and noble, sealed from the Capitol vaults series. Will it be worth something in 20 yrs or so? Should I leave it sealed?

I totally understand the collector side of the question, so please don't think I'm judging you ... but I think it's a pity when vinyl doesn't get played. :)

I'm sure it'll be worth something, but I'm equally sure that we'll keep getting new pressings, updates, anniversary packages, etc. The resurgence of vinyl pretty much guarantees that more will be coming.

I have the Capitol Vault reissue. It sounds pretty good! I don't know that it'll dislodge the CATP-SO/PS copy from anyone's favorite version, but it's pretty solid. It's in my regular vinyl rotation of PS versions (along with mono first release and CATP-SO).

Whether you open it or keep it pristine, enjoy it. :)

I have the same problem all the time!  I love having them sealed, like walking into a record shop and seeing them.  I always say they might be worth something in the future but I hope I'd never need to cash in.  It's also a shame not to play them.  I've still not played the new vinyl releases but I plan to (buying 2 of each is something I've done in the past!).

I could be wrong but I don't think it will be worth anything. There are so many versions of this album out there already and many of them sound better than the digital file sourced "capitol vault" series. The DCC vinyl and the So Tough/Pet Sounds come to mind when talking about better sounding versions out there. Once the Analogue Productions version by Kevin Gray is released, you'd probably have a  better chance at that being worth money in the future. Open up the "capitol vaults" version and enjoy it. 

If you had one from, say, 1966 or even as late as 1969 that was still unsealed, then yes I'd say it would someday be a collector's item (almost certainly already would be). But a recent printing? No way.

I agree.  Outside of original Capitol rainbow pressings, the one disc Reprise reissue with the brown cover, and the DCC pressing, the rest were pressed in the hundreds of thousands of copies and are worth little more than their face value. The marketing departments will put things like "Limited Edition" on a sticker in order to create consumer interest, but there's very little that's "limited" about them.

Ok I gave in and opened it. No booklet..!? That's bullshit.

All I'm saying is, you have teased a board of rabid, overzealous and sometimes quick to temper and snipe Beach Boy fans.   People get excited to hear anything "new" or "different".   If a tape circulated consisting of nothing but Brian farting, most here would want to take a listen.

I never buy anything I can't listen to.  My collection is only for listening purposes.  [except for the framed stuff...but I already own those singles and albums]  Generally I only buy stuff I don't have...like new releases.  Other than that it's just to replace that which I've worn out.

Not sure why you would expect a booklet...the original pressing of Pet Sounds didn't have a booklet, and the Capitol From The Vaults series are supposed to be exact reproductions of the original issues, including the original labels and inner sleeves.  The only original Capitol albums that were released with a booklet were Beach Boys Concert and Stack O Tracks -- and the From The Vaults reissues of those albums do have booklets.

No, but certainly not "bullshit" that one wasn't included.

Ok well it's bullshit no booklets or posters were included in the original pressings of there albums.

Then start a new thread titled "Why Didn't All Beach Boys Capitol Albums from the '60s Contain Posters or Booklets?"  That would be a good discussion.

I may do just that. I was thinking of the 40th anniversary of pet sounds having the gatefold with the pics and stuff. My bad. I'm sure in 2016 for the 50th Capitol will re-re-release PS.

If you'd like a vinyl copy of Pet Sounds with some form of notes/booklet, the 40th anniversary vinyl reissue of Pet Sounds is a double LP with a gatefold containing mostly notes from the cd booklet of Pet Sounds. It's a double LP of a stereo disc and a mono disc...they're also on yellow and green colored vinyl.

Seriously, isn't it all just about the heavenly music and not about the packaging and bargain and investment? The tag to GOK is so beautiful played from vinyl that it actually hurts.

Of course it is. But it's always nice to have it presented in a fancy cover, with other goodies & for reasonable cost.
