Fantastic singer.  It ran in the family, his brother is one of the most underrated of all time IMHO.  They both had an ability to really sell a song, and make you think they wrote it or were talking about their own experiences, as opposed to just reciting lyrics somebody handed them.  Both great performers with a natural voice that was really expansive... What Becomes of the Brokenhearted is about as perfect as a record can get.  What more can you say about a singer?  These guys do this as a job, I doubt they ever realize what a gift they've given the world with their music.  I have literally heard that song, and a few of his others, hundreds of times since I was a child.  I can remember being 5 years old and listening to it.  They go in the studio for a session, do their best, and it inspires people, if they're lucky, for generations.  What an amazing impact he had on the world.
