Brian Wilson started making a country album, Cows in the Pasture, with Fred Vail in 1970.

I do know about "Cows In The Pasture", but I wasn't certain how much Brian did on it (as in, actual audible contributions) outside of serving as producer.  Likewise, I wasn't sure to include the unheard Charles Manson LP, because I wasn't sure if the Wilsons actually would've played on it.

(Seriously though, I wish that Bellagio page would update its Unreleased Albums section!  Andrew......?)

I notice you are missing the beach boys in concert (unreleased) early 1973.  It would have been a single lp of recordings from November 1972

In my discography (basically a giant DOC file I keep for myself), I do include that, in the "Beach Boys In Concert" entry. :)

I'm pretty sure you shouldn't count Sweet Rutle Tracks, which was a bootleg, whose title was a parody of the Beatles bootleg Sweet Apple Tracks (or was it "Trax"??).

Also, on April 24 I was in one of the used record stores near me and saw a Mike & Dean album called Rock'n'Roll Again. Track list:

I should mention, too, that the Rutles have a new CD called "Live + Raw" - almost certainly that Ricky Fataar is nowhere to be found, though, as this was recorded by the current touring version of the band.

There was a mid-late '80s album put out by MELECO titled 4th of July (iirc). It has the BBs doing "Back in the USSR" and other artists' tracks from mid-'80s 4th of July shows.

I think substantial re-editing, remixing, instrumental and vocal overdubs, as well as at least one lead vocal re-tracked (Mike's), if not Carl and Alan's as well.  Radically different sound for each production.  Massive sweetening, if this is the same track.

I looked for notices of recording sessions other than the October and November 1982 sessions in your gigs and sessions site up through 1986 but didn't see anything else listed.  Any idea when the additional work was done?

I do recall being at a Beach Boys show in June of 1982 (June 16) and Al mentioning on stage that they'd just recorded a new version of California Dreamin' as their next single.  Perhaps the Radio Shack version was from earlier sessions?

Omission on my part.  Retracked with Al.  As in thrown out and replaced with Al's vocal.

"Tad & 1/2" may correspond to my American ears like the English pound does to the dollar.  And perhaps even a dollar and a half more.

Andrew, who was was proposed to be a part of the production team?  Were the Beach Boys still going to write the songs, or were songs being brought in from the producers?

I think "Sweet Rutle Tracks" is worth counting - one, because it's a full album's worth of material; and two, because I don't think the bootleg of that title is as 'unofficial' as you'd think.  I have a feeling someone involved directly in The Rutles just tossed that one out there.

It ended up being a very limited release titled Outstanding in His Field, The Bucolic Works of Brian Wilson.  side one: 12 versions of Back Home.  Side two:   12 versions of Shortening Bread.   Plus bonus cuts of Barnyard.

By that logic, you should put lots of Beach Boys bootlegs on that list too...like LandyLocked.

I have to say a WHOOOOLE lot of the list makes no sense. For instance, why is Silver Summer in The Beach Boys section? Mike's the only Beach Boy on it. And its a JAN & DEAN album! Well, at least it's title as such, Jan actually ain't on it.

I guess I'll do a few more too. Why Remember the Zoo? It's a hoax, therefore why's it listed? And that early '80s supposed "ecology album" was supposed to be a Love/Jardine thing, not Beach Boys. And especially with a project like that, where material might not have even been written for it, why bother including it?

As was said earlier, the NASCAR album ain't a Beach Boys album. It's an album by "Mike Love, Bruce Johnston & David Marks of the Beach Boys" and therefore shouldn't be in the Beach Boys section.

As far as Brian, there was never a planned "Wilson project" album, nor a Soul Searchin' album. The Wilson/Paley stuff was written for a prospective Beach Boys album.

I will say though, nice attempt! And though I knew about many of Bruce's half-ass money-grab groups like the Vettes and the Kustom Kings and the Hot Doggers (not to mention Bob Sled & the Tobaggans) and whatever else, I must say I never knew of the Catalinas. So thanks for that info.

See, that's the problem - a lot of the issues people are pointing out are explained (in detail) in the discography.... this is just a list of what I cover to make sure I have everything I need. :-P

On my BB site, I have a section for the BB discogs of both the UK & US. They feature the 1961-2014 releases of the prime members, band and solo. I also have a section for songs on which said members (minus Bruce) guest on other artist's releases. They're not in the main discog because neither the name of the band nor the individual appear on the label. Example:

"Almost Summer" by Celebration featuring Mike Love - main discog...

No Pier Pressure by Brian Wilson - main discog...

"Wishing You Were Here" by Chicago - guesting discog...

Remember The Zoo - unreleased albums but stated to be a hoax.

Well, all I wanted to do is getting the facts straight, not making a problem of it. Soul Meeting is a great album to have, and fits nicely in the Flames catalogue, but it's not a Flames album, which the explanation does suggest. After all, "Chicago VII" (under 'Beach Boys', featuring Chicago) and "Caribou" (under 'Carl Wilson and Bruce Johnston' - featuring Elton Jonh) aren't mentioned either.  ;D  But all is good.  :)

Anyway. I understand what you goal is with this list. In that case you can add the album "Picaresque" by Ray Ohara, under ' Blondie Chaplin'. All lead vocals are by Blondie. And "Here Comes The Night" by David Johansen. Blondie (co)wrote most of the tracks, and plays guitar and sings backgroundvocals on the album. Both albums aren't highly regarded, but if you want to get your list as complete as possible...

And there's a compilation album of David Marks and the Marksmen as well ("Ultimate Collector’s Edition 1963–1965").

For the even pickier, when Silver Summer was released in 1985, neither Cowsill nor Farmer were touring with the band. By your reasoning, you should include every Cowsills album because, over 35 years later, John was a regular touring Beach Boy. Are you going to include every single Glen Campbell album because he toured with the band for a few months  1964-6 ?

There's completeism and COMPLETEISM, and then there's OCD like this.  ;D

Andrew, I must ask as far as Bruce goes, why you wouldn't count The Vettes or The Catalinas albums for his total, but you do count The Hot Doggers and The Rip Chords, especially since Bruce and Terry weren't officially *in* The Rip Chords. Or were they? I suppose you'd know better than I. Anyways, weren't The Hot Doggers, The Vettes, The Catalinas and The Kustom Kings all Bruce's own "bands"? Or am I misunderstanding?

After the first two/three singles, Bruce & Terry essentially were The Rip Chords. As for The Hot Doggers... you may well have a point. Like the others you name, Bruce was essentially a session dude on them.

Because it's not a Mike Love album: he's guesting on several tracks. That's all.

Well, it seems as valid as the Radio Shack stuff - Mike wasn't on every track there.  What about "A Baker's Dozen"?  I mean, was that meant to be a credited collaboration album?

Well, y'know, "Deadman's Curve" cannot be a ML album by definition as it's named after a Jan & Dean song.

You should probably remove Christmas Party from the list as Mike is on less than half the tracks  ( 5 of 12) ;
Then maybe add Scrooge's Rock 'n' Roll Christmas (1983) as Mike is on half the tracks, if you count him as part of "The Ensemble", only 3 if you don't ( 5 of 10);
He's on more than half the tracks on  Mike and Dean  Rock 'n' Roll again( 1983 ) ( 6 of 11);
For Rock 'N' roll City he's on more than half, so keep it  ( 7 of 12); 

Eh, I'm not that picky, honestly.  That's why "Shut Down, Vol. 1" was included - it was so closely related it merited inclusion (and in my discography I explain why I included it).

I had no idea "Scrooge's Rock & Roll Christmas" was an album though?  I thought it was only a movie....

The Radio Shack album was credited as "Mike Love / Dean Torrence" so even though there were other artists, I suppose that counts as Mike's album.


There have been quite a few albums named after other artists songs. So I don't get the point.

I see it like their primary albums is: surfin safari,surfin usa,surfer girl,lil deuce coupe,shut down vol2,all summer long,today,summer days,pet sounds,smileysmile,wild honey,friends,sunflower,surfs up,holland....then twgmtr.....secondary: xmas album, 20/20 cuz it was more of a comp than proper album, so tough was like an alter ego being under carl/passions, 15 big ones was part new and part tribute, love you _brians solo album w the BB name, and everything til the 85 album were pieced together albums from sessions of different yrs, then the 85 album, summer in paradise was mike love & terry melcher w the BB name.........thoughts?

Yeah sort of like that.     As for Terry, I have some new respect/perspective on TM after hearing an Interview  with Roger McGuin recently.   According to McGuinn, It was Terry's idea to record Gene and Roger doubled as one part and having Croz do 3srds 5ths etc for harmony on Byrds songs he produced.  2 part not 3 part on some songs.  In retrospect, RM appreciated that.   having said that, maybe Terry knew a little something about harmony and vocals when working with Mike et Al.......just sayin
