Now that the 50 has come and passed - so much seemed promised (from the vaults) yet so little seemed to be delivered (no complaints about MIC just not enough of it) and seeing that the long lusted for vault raid for live recordings failed to materialise I've compiled my own LIVE ANTHOLOGY as an ipod playlist ... so hear it is ... all tracks are quality soundboards sourced from official and elicit recordings/releases and for me they display why the Beach Boys were as good on stage as they were in the studio. There's just over 80 tracks and it would have made a pretty neat 4CD box set. I've edited the start and end of some recording so that the live sequence flows together, I've roughly followed chronological order of recordings with a little bit of artistic liberty to aid the flow - I'd like to know what other people consider essential tracks or recordings they would have liked to see on a live anthology:

I was actually thinking of posting a topic just like this one. You even picked a lot of the tracks I would have picked too!  :lol I would have added a few oddities, like Sumahama from Japan 1979, Some Of Your Love, Livin With A Heartache, and possibly Lady Lynda from Philadelphia 1980, Goin On from one of the Reno Nevada shows from 1980, and Don't Worry Baby and In My Room(both with Brian on lead vocals) from Las Vegas 1995. I might add Brian singing God Only Knows from Westbury 1982.

Could you add a fifth disc drawing a few tracks from each of the different touring factions' setlists over recent decades?

I was thinking, perhaps use some of the live tracks from the Hallmark album? It's got a few late 80s great sounding recordings.

I'd be happy with the complete Chicago concert from '65.

I'd add some deep cuts from the 80s, like "Lookin' at Tomorrow" '83, "Heaven" from the 25th Anniversary Special, "Runaway" '83, "Sail on Sailor" '81, "This Whole World" '88, and some of the campfire songs.

I'd like to hear stuff from the early 70s with Chaplin and Fataar (and Bruce - why the hell not?); the unplugged stuff from 93, but, yeah, an anthologu from across the years would be good too.

Disc five would just have to include stuff from Celebration as well as examples of the M&B show, BW's Pet Sounds and Smile outings,Al's family and friends, Dave's solo and band outings, Carl's solo tours and of course Dennis's POB tour rehearsals. Another feast!

Excellent. I would add "Its OK" from 1976, and use the Chiba-Japan recordings for the 50th reunion songs (when possible).

I would go with Carl's SOS circa 1995 from the MIC box, also his GOK from Paramount in '93.  All subjective of course...

Caroline, no from '93 is also a breathtaking version. Thanks to Carl's smoky voice I would rather use that version than any other although he alsways did a splendid job as far as I can tell.

My requests:

Michigan 1966. See the SOT "Beach Boys Live" Box - edit out most of the Mike Love sh*t chat. 'Cept for the pee on a fire hydrant bit going into their first performance of Good Vibrations.

1967 Fall/Winter tour. Anybody heard the "Vocal Element" boot? Take a little bit (or all) from each of those four shows in November.

But most of all, the ENTIRE Carnegie Hall '72 material! We have some of it booted (and released) already - we need it all! The whole concert(s).

Outtakes from the '73 In Concert album.  

Anything from the "East Coast Pipeline" or "Nassau" boots from 1974. Even Dennis' Nixon joke.

Material from the Beachago tour, 1975. Everything with The Beach Boys and Chicago on the same stage.

I will echo the sentiment for the Paramount and/or Valley Forge '93 acoustic material. And the Red Barn Rehearsal material.

The C50. A re-do of the released 2012 material, including Japan, Wembley and RFH shows in their ENTIRETY. One CD/DVD will be sufficiant.

Great idea but I would like there to be mostly unreleased stuff rather than a compilation of what's already on other box sets and cds.

I'd prefer it if they started releasing full shows but if they were to do an anthology, I'd definitely hope to see:

I am dying for a good live anthology, although personally I hope it is heavy with Blondie and Ricky era stuff, and live with Brian recordings.  And I would like to see quality trump rarity- example, I thought The LEtter on the boxset was a waste of space.  I would never listen to that a second time.  Just my opinion.

Something I would include, and maybe it's because it's my favorite version of th song, but i love the version of Graduation Day from 1967 in Washington DC (I think). It's interesting to hear Bruce do his parts as opposed to hearing Brian.

They did this three or four times during the Fall (Thanksgiving Tour) in Boston, N.Y., Pittsburg, and probably Washington, November, 1967.  They're on the aforementioned "Vocal Element" boot. Daryl Dragon's and Ron Brown's first shows with The Boys.

Ah, maybe the vocal element is where I heard this one.

IMHO, an essential inclusion would be "Shortenin' Bread" from Nassau Coliseum '79. That version smokes with Carl in great gritty vocal form.

I hope there is a decent live recording of "It's Gettin' Late' - the studio version is so synth heavy, would be nice to hear it done with real instruments.

Could also use an "encore" version of Runaway from the 80s from the Sunkist album.
And if you needed a car medley, it's on the Hallmark cd.

Sorry if I missed it in the OP (that big list made my eyes go crazy), I would love to see Surf City on a CD - I know they have done it live a few times.
