Title: The racecourse shows. Post by: Andrew G. Doe on September 02, 2014, 03:39:14 PM Sometime being a bookie - and thus trading in human misery & being responsible fro pretty much all the ills that beset this fair planet - has its upside. From the trade paper (The Racing Post) yesterday, these are the attendances for the BB UK racecourse shows this summer:
Newmarket - 13,449 Newbury - 15,059 Epsom Downs - 6,234 York - 16,992 These figures are, of course, for the entire attendance but at Epsom, the crowd looked like about 6,000 to me. Post by: MaxL on September 02, 2014, 04:17:57 PM There was definitely a disparity between the attendance at the two I was at (Epsom and York) but I didn't think it was that much, even taking into account the non-concert-going clientele.

Title: Re: The racecourse shows. Post by: CarlTheVoice on September 03, 2014, 01:23:57 PM Andrew, as Epsom is a lot lower than the others, I just wanted to know if this was due to capacity or slower ticket sales?
Title: Re: The racecourse shows. Post by: Andrew G. Doe on September 03, 2014, 03:15:48 PM Think it was a capacity issue - as you know, the stage was off to one side of the grandstand. This was the crowd in 2011, when the stage was almost square-on to the main stand:

Title: Re: The racecourse shows. Post by: CarlTheVoice on September 04, 2014, 12:52:32 PM I'm in the front row of this pic! :-D
Yes, I really didn't like the set up this year, you had to stand on a gradient and I just didn't feel comfortable with it. The front row also seemed shorter which also annoyed me. Still, it was a great evening. |
