Title: The Beach Boys - 50 years in 50 clips Pt 1 1962-1971 Post by: Matt P on August 26, 2014, 03:24:27 PM Back at the time of the reunion I posted on Facebook fifty Youtube clips of The Beach Boys over fifty days; one for each year of the bands existence. For no reason whatsoever I've decided to share my choices with you.
I set myself a few rules - Professionally recorded clips only (live concerts, TV appearances or videos) so no home video or mobile phone footage. Where possible I tried to keep the tunes contemporary to each year (not always possible as the years progressed), I also tried to find clips that were representative of the band at that time so there's a few dodgy clips later on! I also wanted to include at least one solo performance of each of the key players (the late 90s an 2000s in particular are obviously more Briancentric). There were a couple of years for which I couldn't find any clips, so I had to cheat and double up on a year, I'm sure the uber-fans will be able to tell which years are missing. When watched chronologically, I think they tell The Beach Boys story pretty well. Gonna make a YouTube playlist and watch them all in sequence a little later today. My only suggestions would be replacing It's About Time with Forever from the same concert (the video can be found in better quality) and Never Learn Not To Love with live performances of either I Can Hear Music or Break Away (both of which were hits). No put-down on your choices, just something to take into consideration.

I think I chose Its About Time because you can see more of the band on that clip than on Forever and they're looking good! Never Learn Not To Love was chosen because I wanted clips that represented some of the important or infamous chapters of The Beach Boys career and I'm afraid that includes the Manson connection ...I also really like the song.
