[An attempt at an innately positive, constructive thread regarding Brian's upcoming new solo effort. Here goes nothing.. :-D]


So, what are you all looking forward to most in Brian's new album? What aspect, artistically speaking, are you probably most interested in when it's eventually released?




To me, right now, it's the vocal collaborations with the Jardines, Blondie Chaplin and so forth. But really, I'm a fan of BW as a solo artist, so whatever form the album takes it's going to deliver many a joyful moment for me.

O well I did anyway. As I'm sure we'll get other BB and artists on the album, and I'm sure there's at least one gem on the album, I had to vote for a Shortnin' Bread riff. Didn't have one yet this century...   :)

I'm just glad to get more music from Brian, but I voted for the BB alumni choice.  Al's voice is a big part of the BB sound I love and I've always felt Matt's falsetto was closer to Brian's than what Jeff can do (yes I know he's also on the album). 

I am most interested in hearing tracks related to the Life Suite.

The new recording of "When I Get Mad I Just Bang My* Drums" featuring John Stamos on lead vocals, Mike and Bruce on backing vocals, and a percussive middle-eight duel between Nelson Bragg and John Cowsill. It's part of the "That's Life" suite.

I really think the songs with the other Beach Boys should be in a different section than the songs with other guest artists.

Are you talking about the poll? Option #2 (Tracks with all those BBs alumni / guest artists on them!) is referring to all those tracks with prominent contributions by the Al Jardine, Blondie Chaplin and David Marks - plus the likes of Jeff Beck, etc.! Hip 'younger' (mostly female) duet partners are pooled under option #3.



There's going to be some minor processing on the vocals, that's just a reality of modern music business. I'd surprised if it sounded like TWGMTR, though. :) As long as it's tastefully done (see Reimagines Gershwin).

Songs in the wake of the suite, definitely. However part of me is itching to hear the Nate Ruess track.

I'm also looking forward to seeing the album artwork.

I can't wait the hear the flow of the whole thing...how each track sound going into the next one. That's always a highlight of a good BW record  :angel:

Nuthin' tops the magic Brian injects into his work when he's fully into it. There's just a special quality to the songs, found from Don't Worry Baby to Melt Away to Summer's Gone.

And as someone who has little to no interest in modern music, I very rarely get the chance to anxiously wait for the release of NEW music. Most of the time I'm excited for archival releases, like MiC, but that's not the same (though the time around here post-MiC was super fun). I'm anticipating that some strong memories will be made on my first listen through of this album.

I expect 1/3 great, 1/3 good and 1/3 ok/listenable. TLOS and TWGMTR were good ones.

I'll just be happy to have a new album by the main guy in all this.  I welcome it with open arms, as I would welcome an album by any member(s) of my favourite band.

I remember when the BWRG stream was first put up on the webz - a lot of us here were listening at the same time, posting our reactions here. It's really exciting when Brian puts out an album - and sounds like he's really put a lot of effort into this one.

I'm looking forward to hearing Brian singing with the Jardines and Blondie Chaplin. Also I'll be excited to hear some new tunes from Brian. I hope the female vocals are cool, I'm sure they are. I'm curious about Jeff Beck's featured moment, but it's not top of the list curiousity. Also looking forward to liner notes and possible Brian humor.

Brian + Al + Matt.  I was looking forward to "Metropolis", just based upon the descriptions I had heard (most notably Al's vocals), but, alas...

NO AUTO TUNE, FOR F**K'S SAKE!!!!!

I don't think there will be auto tune on this one, considering there was nothing but negative feedback in regards to it.

I really think there will be autotune, I think they don't care at all about the feedback, specially from 100 o 200 hard-core fans. It's more than obvious at this point that our friend Thomas don't use the Autotune as a pitch correcter or vocal arrenger, but as a way to create a "contemporary" sound and show a band suitable for todays mainstream consumers. It's silly and sick, but after listening to TWGMTR (specially the Isn't it Time single...), the 50th DVD and the 50th album, I've lost all my hopes... And many previous works of Thomas are horrible too; we all expect a new Lucky Old Sun or Reimagines Gerswhin, but Thomas wasn't involved on those...(thanks god!)

That's how I am as well.  There are always a few new tunes here and there that I like, but I never get excited for a new album.  Maybe Coldplay's recent album, but that was disappointment to me.  This could very well be Brian's last album (though I have my doubts), so it could be the last time I get excited for new music.  

I went with the "duets" option, though I considered the one about him doing whatever he wants, too. I'm not interested in "duets" albums on the whole--I think it's a tired gimmick--but I think Brian's music works best when it uses numerous vocalists, including multiple lead vocalists both within and across songs. Then I'm also just curious about the matches that seem bizarre on their face. The impression that he's really interested in the project and Ray Lawlor's positive feedback on this arrangement have only made me even more interested.

I tend to like his quirky songs more at this stage, so I'm most looking forward to what most people would consider the filler on the album.  I really liked Shelter, and Strange World on the last album.  The other stuff was good too but those two songs were the most interesting to me I believe.

I liked it, I hope he uses plenty of it on everybody if it gets them in key.  BRING ON THE AUTOTUNE, BRIAN!

Brian wasn't the one who was responsible for the auto-tune... :P

I'm looking forward to the singular thrill of sneaking yet more Brian Wilson contraband past the wife and clandestinely listening to it after she goes to bed.

Can't wait to hear the new Brian album, I like the fact that he's still recording. That said, I'm more interested in duets, here's hoping Lana didn't ruin the final track, her voice is so worn-out, tame & uninspiring. Major turn-off. The rest is a good company.

I like Zooey too.   Hope the duet with her is half as good as Brian and Carol King on TLOS (I'm into something good).

I'm a big Zooey fan! Like her voice a lot, it's very pleasant & not too girlish, despite the face. She's good as half of "She & Him" & also in one-off music projects. Hope the duet with her isn't as boring as Brian + Carole ("I'm into Something Good" is mediocre song anyway).

I`ve been a Zooey fan ever since I saw her in The New Guy (funny but nonessential) back in `03.

Don't forget her character owned a vinyl copy of Pet Sounds in Almost Famous.

I was just thinking today that instead of rehashing "Summer Means New Love" (albeit with lyrics), how EFFIN' cool it would be if Brian recorded "It's Trying to Say (Baseball)" with Zooey Deschanel? I've been racking my brain for ways to figure out how that wouldn't be awesome, and I just can't find one reason.

And yeah, I'm aware that Deschanel isn't on the "Summer" remake.

Please, someone, MAKE THIS HAPPEN!

I voted for the suite, because the last few songs on Thats Why God Made The Radio are wonderful and perfect. So, this is what I hope for. But I'm also looking forward to the duet with Lana Del Rey, because I love her music and especially her voice.

I had forgotten she was the big sis with the copy of pet sounds in the movie.  Cool!

Somebody on the Blueboard posted that his/her local FYE store had Brian's album listed for release on Sept. 16. I haven't seen that anywhere else. Even if it was a legit release sheet, dates are sometimes pushed back. It may be a sign it's coming soon, though.
