Interesting that Jersey Boys was a box office failure.  I'm sure that has the producers of the BW movie worried and adjusting their marketing campaign.

From what a review I read, it seems it's only a "relative" failure, and possibly will be a success in the long term. Seems baby boomers (JB's core audience) don't rush to movies on opening weekends, which makes sense - at their age, who wants to fight the crowds? :) Rather, they wait a couple of weeks and catch it at a matinee. So it's expected to be one of those "sleeper" stories, with some lasting success. I'm sure the DVD/BluRay release will do just fine.

Its pretty much the stage show on the big screen so sales of the soundtrack and interest in that stage show should increase. Valli still performs so he gets promotion also.

Brian's handlers will take note I'm sure.

All it means is that they want to shoot in the state of California. Any production that shoots in CA is eligible for tax breaks, just like productions apply for New York credits when shot in New York. Heck, I'm sure Brian's production applied for it and maybe got it, since it was shot in the state.

The Jersey Boys trailer didn't seem to explain very well what the movie was about, IMO.  Hopefully the trailer for L&M entices people!

It appears that the “Jersey Boys” movie will end up, by most measures, far less successful than the Broadway show it’s based on.

Knowing that this thing back in 2005 hugely tanked:

I would question how well a movie of even a slightly similar style might fare.

If they play up Love & Mercy as a "Beach Boys movie" rather than just a Brian Wilson biopic, it will probably do well that way.
