Title: Study Albums
Post by: Reverend Joshua Sloane on May 09, 2006, 06:14:06 PM
Got any good albums you can swear by when it's time to study for something?

I've got Smiley Smile on now while studying Copyright Law for a reasonably large exam tomorrow. It's working well (besides this minor distraction).

I always found Thelonius Monk albums to somehow help, the glorious, crazy, jagged puzzles that they tend to be.

Green Day - Kerplunk! worked for me in Grade 9.
Queen - Live Killers worked for me in OAC.
Radiohead - OK Computer did NOT work for me in 2nd year university.

Sometimes you just have to go with what you feel like listening to. That old trick with remembering what you studied by remembering a song has worked for me a few times.

When studying for the bar exam 10 years ago, for some reason, I popped on ELO's "Out Of The Blue" and just kept it on repeat play. It really is a fantastic album and the mood swings from sweet instrumentals to bluesy pop really made for a good atmosphere.

I do that a lot as well.

In one of my gym classes we run a half mile before every game outside. This consists of running around the parking lot three times, and it gets very boring. When I start running I immediatly start 'Good Vibrations' in my mind. By the time that I've started to slow down some the slower bridge to the song is playing out. When it kicks back up I go flying with a last burst to the end.

The next thread in this series: Sturdy Albums!

Albums that are just so bad that you use them to prop open doors, hold up cars, bend as a stress relief!
