Title: Re: There's something that perplexes me about the downfall of SMiLE.... Post by: petsite on May 22, 2014, 05:21:36 PM The difference is that when PS was ready for release, Mike had come around. Also, Brian was more stable. By the following year, Brian's emotional problems had taken over, along with other issues.

Post by: Rocky Raccoon on May 22, 2014, 05:45:04 PM So everyone here knows one of the main reasons SMiLE was cancelled was because Mike Love was very much against it and complained to Brian about how kids in that day wouldn't get what the songs were supposed to be about. Title: Re: There's something that perplexes me about the downfall of SMiLE.... Post by: pixletwin on May 22, 2014, 06:07:02 PM Ah the old "If Mike thought SMiLE was too weird and not commercial enough to release, how did Smiley Smile ever get released?"
The answer is simple: SMiLE didn't come out because Brian didn't want it to. Smiley Smile came out because Brian wanted it released. :3d Title: Re: There's something that perplexes me about the downfall of SMiLE.... Post by: Shady on May 22, 2014, 06:34:46 PM You also have to include how Mike was probably happy he got to write some songs on smiley smile

Title: Re: There's something that perplexes me about the downfall of SMiLE.... That said, how did Mike let Brian release Smiley Smile? It's even more weird and abstract than the original SMiLE sessions! For as much as there is written about SMiLE, I can't seem to find much about the making of Smiley Smile. I mean, Mike complained about Pet Sounds too, so how was Brian able to have enough confidence to release that album? I do not accept the premise. SMiLE's cancellation was due to Brian. The release of Smiley Smile illustrates this. If Pet Sounds was f****ing with the formula Smiley Smile anally raped it. Title: Re: There's something that perplexes me about the downfall of SMiLE.... Ahhh... a sweeping and luminously inaccurate statement by someone who hardly posts... Nope, will resist the urge to, well, do what I normally do in such a situation and will merely observe that no, "everyone here" doesn't know that, because it's demonstrably not true. The other reason I'm not saying anything is because of the transparent troll bait. ;D Title: Re: There's something that perplexes me about the downfall of SMiLE.... Title: Re: . Post by: runnersdialzero on May 23, 2014, 12:32:09 PM I like the idea that Mike "let" Brian release Smiley Smile or any other record, tho.
