His first two tour dates are at venues I've never heard of. But maybe they offered the most money for the least expenses.  No dealing with major promoters as they did for the Beck tour.

This is a University arts center which I would imagine is much easier to deal with than Live Nation. Not sure what type of budget they have, but it looks like an absolutely gorgeous theater that probably has some pretty high-end amenities. Plus it's a (relative) short travel time to and from LA so I'm sure that brings the expense down a bit.

I don’t think two semi-announced tour dates is particularly representative of anything. Actually, I see in some cases that it is the shows at less busy, less typical “rock/pop” show type of venues, that announce (or reveal) shows individually, because they may not have a huge “concert season” full of those rock/pop artists like the traditional sheds/amphitheaters, etc.

They may indeed be booking smaller venues (size-wise or market-wise), but these venues also seem relatively high-end. There’s no indication he’s booking exclusively clubs and bars or something.

Maybe Brian is heeding that advice from 2012, and booking those smaller markets that are “so vital.”  :lol  I dunno, if I had to travel to some weird venue and/or town, I guess I’d rather see the show at a high-end theater rather than a fair or rib cook-off. 

What is the other tour date?

At the Gallo Center in Modesto, which is a former small agricultural town that's turned into an extreme fringe bedroom community for the Silicon Valley, about an hour and a half from San Jose. It's more of a drive from an urban area than Long Beach to LA, put it that way.

I agree, they're not playing tiny clubs, but they're not "mainstream" venues, is my point. Steve Martin plays a lot of those type of off-the-beaten-path theaters, and he has a decent sized audience for his bluegrass music and a built in following from his movie career.

 ;D . The highlighted part would fit Carl far better than Brian, though arguably Carl wasn't always as 'dynamic' a force in the group as he should have been, but I digress.

The Carpenter Center (named after Richard and Karen) at CSU Long Beach holds 1,074 people. Ticket prices for Brian's gig range from $50 to $85. It appears that at least a third or more of the seats, mainly in the front area, have already been sold. For those looking for the "tale of the tape."
