Post by: Rerun on May 07, 2006, 10:07:47 AM
It sounds pretty great from what I've heard so far...

Check it out at Paulsimon.com and discuss.

I like a lot of Paul Simon's music. I only listened to a few of the new songs on his website, and I doubt I'll buy the album. Sounds pretty forced to me. Too bad--he has done some really good things, and his influence is being felt in a lot of the indie stuff that comes across my desk lately. And I loved his Surfer Girl at the BW Tribute (I know, I know...many people hated it).

Personally, I think it's A-Mazing.  There are just these crazy Paul Simon structures whipping his songs in a million directions, but it still works.  The Eno touch just adds this other layer, making it all the more interesting.  I'm actually surprised how much I like the collaboration.  Is it as good as "Graceland?" Well, no, but that's like saying it's not one of the greatest albums of all time.  Still, it's a beautiful, and of course thoughtful, as with all of Simon's work, record.  He performs on SNL tonight, can't wait.

I loved that tribute as well and am actually surprised to learn that people hated it.

I think that, other than Ricky Martin's performance (which at least deserved it), it got the worst reactions I read online.

i love paul simon.  i cant stand this new album. this merda do touro production is the same 'already-dated-before-its-out' crap we heard on Hearts and Bones - when he teamed up with another ill-matched produced - that Glass nerd.  i'm not knocking eno or simon by themselves. the lyrics on a few of these songs are absolutely laughable.  i will say that his voice sounds good. really good.

He performed on the most recent Saturday Night Live. Did two songs - one had the full-blown U2 thing going on, the other was 'quirky' a la Talking Heads. Would I have picked up on that if I didn't know that Eno produced the record? Probably not. Anyways, the songs themselves seemed a bit thin and repetitive, albeit with some cool arrangements... his singing is an aquired taste, so I won't say that it seemed a bit shaky.
