I love the song Hurricane, but in reality Rubin likely did in fact commit those murders and was just a pretty surly dude overall.

That website is known for a lot of right wing propaganda, I wouldn't exactly trust them as the ultimate source.

I realize that. Keep in mind he was convicted TWICE of triple murder, and was only let go via a technicality in the late 80s -- he was never found "not guilty." The evidence against him was overwhelming.

He was a violent man. Remember, he assualted the woman largely responsible for (briefly) getting him out of prison in 1976, before he was convicted again.

People are just too dang politically correct to accept that it is possible that a black man could commit murder. I am a pathologically liberal voter and I think it's clear, after studying the case, that Rubin Carter was guilty.

Here's an interesting forum on the Dylan blog, Expecting Rain:

The only far-fetched conspiracy theory on Carter is that he was innocent. All evidence points to his guilt. I love Dylan's song, but it is just a fanciful folk tale, like most of the Desire songs. But I don't doubt that Dylan, at least at that time, assumed his innocence.

Apparently the majority of Paterson, NJ (where he committed the crimes) are hesitant to buy the Hollywood version of his story. That's telling.
