And if so, do you think that it's likely more than a coincidence? The similarity jumped out at me, but as fellow BBs fans I'm curious what your first take is. There are other ads in the series with different voices singing the Oreo lyrics, but all of them have the same basic vocal style and rhythm on those opening lines.

(I played the relevant snippet of the Beach Boys song and this ad song back-to-back for my wife, and she thinks I'm nuts. Well, suppose I can't blame her.)   :)

Certainly sounds like it to me (are we keeping the title a secret?)
The rhythm of the singing is the most obvious part, though I don't know if I would have picked it out if you didn't say anything.

They're also describing Oreos as "Wonderfilled", a straight-up rip-off of the song title Wonderful. And there's an over-preponderance of the colours white and blue, like the early 60s striped shirts… is the subliminal message that "Oreos are as American as the Beach Boys"?

What else can folks spot?

Interesting, sounds about a full step higher but same basic progression on the chorus.

The jingle's rhythm loosely resembles the "Take all the time you need, it's a lovely night..." chorus part in the Friends track.

C'mon, even I can hear it… we're talking about the released version here, not some unreleased alternate melodied outtake with different lyrics that only 2.5 superfans have heard!!!!!!!!!!! :lol

While I can hear Busy Doin' Nothin' in the first part of the song, I think it is just a coincidence.

I certainly hear the resemblance to the "I wrote the number down / But I lost it" part from 'Busy Doin' Nothing'. But it's much more likely a coincidence than a ripoff.

I can hear it.. but no, I don't think it was intentionally lifted from BDN.

I'd say it could go either the route of complete coincidence, or that the songwriter is a BB fan, and had BDN floating around in his head.

Its the same bouncy melody revolving around a minor third.

No worries that the similarity isn't noticeable to all -- a good reminder for me of how subjective the listening experience is.
When I first heard it the reference practically jumped out of the speakers, but I figured others might have different reactions, hence I thought I'd leave the song title off and see if you guys heard what I did.

I probably wouldn't have noticed myself, except that the BDN part of the jingle comes right at the beginning, launching the song with what to me is a quite distinctive vocal pattern and setting its whimsical tone.

If you browse the other ads in the Wonderfilled series (and LOL, I'm starting to think I'd be better off as an Oreo social media consultant than at my current job), you'll hear lots of different variations on the Oreo jingle... different singers (some male), some where the songs are slowed down, some sung in other languages and what have you... but all of the ones I listened to use what to me sounds like a BDN-ish rhythm as a starting point for a couple of lines before the songs go off in other directions. Would be interesting to know if the songwriter(s) is a BB fan.

I made sure to listen to the video before finding out what the song being referred to here was.  I was able to get that it was Busy Doin' Nothin', but it's far enough removed that I'm sure it's a case of coincidence.

It's pretty easy to believe the person who wrote that song is a fan of the "Friends" album

...and it's always a possibility that the jingle writer hadn't heard Friends in a long time and unintentionally lifted that melody line thinking it was something completely original, but it was actually something he pulled out of his subconscious....

I'm sure it happens all the time.  It's happened to me a time or two, but fortunately I catch them before they get published!

I thought they were hearing Wake The World for a little while too. I don't really think it sounds too much like Busy Doin' Nothing too much really.

Could pick it after two seconds. I'm unsure if the performers (Tegan and Sara) wrote the jingle, but I know they're at the least casual fans of the band.

It only slightly resembles Busy Doin' Nothin'. But for the most part, I agree with AGD

The first six seconds of the jingle sounds like a direct lift from BDN. The rest, no.

I heard this on tv about a week ago, and instantly thought that it sounded like Busy Doin' Nothin'. I wasn't even in the same room, and it still caught my attention.

It sounds vaguely similar, but I certainly would never have made any connection had someone not pointed it out...

And it's Tegan and Sara - awful female duo. So I doubt I'll be giving it any more listens.

It's funny how these things can work, I guess. More than once I read about how you noticed H&V or Shortenin' Bread riffs in certain other BW compositions, and that I just could not hear them... (can't think of which specific songs right now, but it's happened a few times).

The song on the ad was originally by Owl City, but I doubt it's an Owl City song or something like that. It was ten times the dreadful that this version is. One Ben Gibbard was slightly more than enough for the world, we didn't need all these fucking soundalikes.

Should be noted that the rhythm of the original is quite a bit different than this.

It's also pretty easy to believe that, among the billions of songwriters out there, two people can write a very similar melody without ever having heard the other song prior. I'm sure it happens all the time, really.

And we call Beatles fans crazy? This thread is evidence of opposite. The rhythm may be similar, yet it falls short of 2 notes in-between, suddenly starts with the BDN "...lovely place"/"...do it right" pattern. So yep, we're being too obsessive with our BBs fandom here.

Btw, I never heard of this "Oreo" chocolate biscuit, they look very nyam-nyam.

Nobody claimed that it was exactly the same. Somebody noted a similarity and it seems that the majority here (at least kind of) agrees with the original poster. How does that make us all "crazy" or "obsessive"?

That phrase was said in jest, actually. I'm as obsessive as the next Smiler & also like analyzing things but come on, making a thread out of noting a similarity with a Friends song which is really not much? Either way, the original poster himself agreed that he's "nuts" when talking with wife, so not a big deal. 

This is a Beach Boys forum. Discussing completely unimportant Beach Boys-related issues is what we're supposed to do here.

If I want to discuss serious, important issues, I go somewhere else. If I want to talk about matrix numbers of a Brazilian pressing of a Beach Boys single, Brian Wilson's socks or a vague resemblance between 'Busy Doin' Nothing' and an Oreo jingle, I go here.

But maybe that does make us all a little bit crazy.  ;D

A lot of people are addicted to Oreos and when Brian wrote Busy Doin' Nothing he was addicted to drugs.

I definitely hear Busy Doin' Nothing. Part of the vocal arrangement (low, high, low, high notes) , about 15 seconds in, also reminds me of Johnny Carson from Love You, as in:

I've seen (your) act (in) Vegas out of sight
