Title: Carl and the Passions and Holland as a double album Post by: slippingonthrough on March 19, 2014, 10:21:59 PM I was thinking that Carl and the Passions and Holland could probably work well as a double album. So I'd thought I'd make a tracklist of what I'd thought would work well.
I opened with Sail On Sailor. It then goes into Here She Comes. It slows down with Only With You then picks pace up again with Funky Pretty. Side 2 begins with the rocking Marcella. It then has the 3-part California Saga followed by Hold On Dear Brother. Side 3 and record 2 begins with You Need A Mess Of Help To Stand Alone. It then slows down for Steamboat before going into He Come Down. The side finishes with Leavin' This Town. Side Four begins with the last fast song The Trader. It then has the CATP ballads to end. Carl and the Passions: Holland 1. Sail On Sailor 2. Here She Comes 3. Only With You 4. Funky Pretty 5. Marcella 6. California Saga: Big Sur 7. Beaks Of Eagles 8. California 9. Hold On Dear Brother 10. You Need A Mess Of Help To Stand Alone 11. Steamboat 12. He Come Down 13. Leavin’ This Town 14. The Trader 15. Make It Good 16. All This Is That 17. Cuddle Up It's kinda like The Beach Boys' White Album. What would be your order? Alternate List with unreleased tracks 1. Sail On Sailor 2. Here She Comes 3. Only With You 4. Funky Pretty 5. Hard Times 6. Marcella 7. California Saga: Big Sur 8. Beaks Of Eagles 9. California 10. We Got Love 11. You Need A Mess Of Help To Stand Alone 12. Hold On Dear Brother 13. Steamboat 14. He Come Down 15. Leavin’ This Town 16. The Trader 17. Make It Good 18. Carry Me Home 19. All This Is That 20. Cuddle Up Title: Re: Carl and the Passions and Holland as a double album Post by: halblaineisgood on March 19, 2014, 11:09:57 PM .

Personally, I would have excluded some of the weaker tracks from the two albums (One from CATP and two from Holland), and added We Got Love, Hard Times, and Carry Me Home. What are your thoughts on that, would you have added the three unreleased tracks from that era? Title: Re: Carl and the Passions and Holland as a double album Post by: RiC on March 19, 2014, 11:29:41 PM Yep, that's pretty great running order. My only change would be to put Steamboat somewhere else, it's too slow to come after a rocker one. We got love would fit perfectly somewhere there.

Haven't heard the other two. Carry Me Home is bit strange. I need to listen to it more. Title: Re: Carl and the Passions and Holland as a double album Post by: bluesno1fann on March 20, 2014, 12:45:35 AM Hard Times is awesome (except for the first 2 seconds). Carry Me Home is bit strange. I need to listen to it more. Hmm... I love the first two seconds of Hard Times. Guess things really are subjective around here :-D Yeah, agreed with Carry Me Home. It's only just starting to (and slowly) growing on me. Would love to see an updated tracklisting of the double album of yours with the three songs and possibly: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7p0lpuPeoe0 Out In The Country http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Le0_YoktZjY It's A New Day http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0_YPbvFpB4U Barnyard Blues Now that would make for an awesome definitive Chaplin-Fataar era double album! Imagine if they recorded It's A New Day for Wild Honey! That would be the best. Barnyard Blues is from 1974 so I wouldn't include it. It's A New Day doesn't really fit the mood of the album. Out In The Country isn't finished. Out In The Country isn't finished. To be fair, none of them are finished (Especially Carry Me Home), including the first 3 I mentioned (except We Got Love). You may have a point with Barnyard Blues, though I mentioned it so you include every song made during the Chaplin/Fataar era. I think It's A New Day does fit in, and CATP and Holland aren't the most cohesive BB's album's made :lol Title: Re: Carl and the Passions and Holland as a double album Post by: bgas on March 20, 2014, 06:11:40 AM Aw man, Vacation's over already? It seemed REALLY short
Title: Re: Carl and the Passions and Holland as a double album Post by: Niko on March 20, 2014, 06:46:25 AM Some said it wouldn't last
All we can say is we're still having a blast Spring vacation, good vibrations Summer weather, we're back together :-D Title: Re: Carl and the Passions and Holland as a double album Post by: Bicyclerider on March 20, 2014, 09:13:40 AM I'd remove Beaks of Eagles, Here She Comes, and Make It Good.
Add It's a New Day, Hard Times, We Got Love, Carry Me Home. Title: Re: Carl and the Passions and Holland as a double album Post by: Magic Transistor Radio on March 21, 2014, 06:08:18 PM I have made my own that I've stuck with for several years:
1. Sail on Sailor 2. Marcella 3. Hold On Dear Brother 4. Trader 5. All This is That 6. Funky Pretty 7. Here She Comes 8. A Mess of Help 9. Leaving this Town 10. Carry Me Home 11. Big Sur 12. Beaks of Eagles 13. California 14. Steam Boat 15. Fourth of July 16. Mt Vernon and Fairway (Gap to surprise track...) 17. He Come Down Title: Re: Carl and the Passions and Holland as a double album Post by: slippingonthrough on March 21, 2014, 10:39:54 PM Nice order but I'd would keep Cuddle Up on there.
Title: Re: Carl and the Passions and Holland as a double album Post by: CenturyDeprived on March 22, 2014, 12:47:23 AM Nice order but I'd would keep Cuddle Up on there. I wonder if the BBs ever considered releasing a double studio album of new material, at any point in their career. SMiLE's potential running length notwithstanding, of course. I think Carl and the Passions and Holland would have been pretty rad. Title: Re: Carl and the Passions and Holland as a double album Post by: Sheriff John Stone on March 22, 2014, 06:01:40 AM The Beach Boys - Sail On Sailor
Side 1 01 Sail On Sailor 02 The Trader 03 California Saga: Big Sur 04 California Saga: The Beaks Of Eagles 05 California Saga: California 06 Funky But Pretty Side 2 07 You Need A Mess Of Help To Stand Alone 08 Marcella 09 Only With You 10 All This Is That 11 Cuddle Up If Side 2 drags a little bit at the end, flip-flop "Marcella" and "Only With You", but, lyrically I think it works better sequenced the other way. Title: Re: Carl and the Passions and Holland as a double album Post by: Sheriff John Stone on March 22, 2014, 06:37:27 AM I was thinking that Carl and the Passions and Holland could probably work well as a double album. Carl & The Passions originally was a double album. :p Title: Re: Carl and the Passions and Holland as a double album Post by: shangaijoeBB on March 22, 2014, 08:24:17 AM One rock oriented "songs" album and one concept album ;)
(I would leave "Cuddle Up" and "Make It Good" off the album for a solo Dennis Wilson LP) Side 1 01 Sail On, Sailor 02 Here She Comes 03 All This Is That 04 Hard Times 05 Funky Pretty Side 2 06 You Need A Mess Of Help To Stand Alone 07 We Got Love 08 Marcella 09 Hold On Dear Brother 10 Carry Me Home Side 3 11 The Trader 12 Steamboat 13 California Saga: Big Sur 14 California Saga: The Beaks Of Eagles 15 California Saga: California Side 4 16 Mt. Vernon and Fairway Theme 17 I'm The Pied Piper (instrumental) 18 Better Get Back In Bed 19 Magic Transistor Radio 20 I'm The Pied Piper 21 Radio King Dom pretty amazing double album! :o Title: Re: Carl and the Passions and Holland as a double album Post by: slippingonthrough on March 23, 2014, 11:48:51 PM I was thinking that Carl and the Passions and Holland could probably work well as a double album. The album was initially packaged with Pet Sounds (at least in some places). I believe it was actually advertised as Pet Sounds with CATP as a bonus album. Title: Re: Carl and the Passions and Holland as a double album Post by: Niko on March 24, 2014, 08:58:02 PM I know about that, I actually have a 1972 press of CATP + Pet Sounds. What I didn't understand was the comment about Pet Sounds not getting respect 'around here'
