Devastated! Not ashamed to say I cried when I heard it on the news this morning...

There's a thread about his passing in the Sandbox. But while we're in music, couple of points. PSH's portrayal of rock critic Lester Bangs in Almost Famous is one of his greatest supporting roles, hands down.

And on her Facebook page, Alanna Nash, author of the standard biography of Colonel Tom Parker, says that when there were plans to film her book in the mid-2000s she told the people involved that PSH would make the ideal Colonel. That's putting it mildly. It's hard to imagine a part more perfectly tailored to his genius. RIP.

Not only is Philip Seymour Hoffman an actor, not a musician or singer, but:

I'm not aware of this actor, although the name is familiar, but I have a big respect for Lester Bangs, his upstanding writings were an enjoyable read.

Just checked the Almost Famous screenshots & Hoffman seems to have captured Lester finely. Think I might watch it, thanks for the tips.
