Title: Brian Playing The Piano Footage Post by: silodweller on January 23, 2014, 04:52:32 AM I apologize if this has been covered a million times before. I was just wondering if the footage of Brian playing the piano in what I believe would've been 1966 or is it 1967 is actually available for viewing? I believe it was someone's girlfriend who filmed him and it seems to be in a very dark room. Brian doesn't actually look too happy while he's playing. He kind of stares directly at the camera for a moment. I think they used a little bit of the footage in "American Band"? I might be mistaken there too.

I think it might be Leonard Bernstein's "inside Pop." He might look "intense" but that doesn't necessarily mean "unhappy." ;) Title: Re: Brian Playing The Piano Footage Post by: silodweller on January 23, 2014, 05:04:04 AM Haha, true about the "intense" bit. I have the Leonard Bernstein special and it isn't included there.

Search Brian Wilson Leonard Bernstein. I'm watching it, now. And, saw it when it aired. :lol Gorgeous hair! ;) Title: Re: Brian Playing The Piano Footage Post by: silodweller on January 23, 2014, 05:44:28 AM Oh yes, the "Surf's Up" footage. That's wonderful but there is another clip that they used of him playing piano. It almost looks a little too fast, like the camera was recording too quickly or something. Do you know of that at all?

That's wonderful but there is another clip that they used of him playing piano. It almost looks a little too fast, like the camera was recording too quickly or something. Do you know of that at all? The entire program is there. It is about 50 minutes. It might be woven-in there, or Andrew, our great and legendary, informed, and learned, researcher might know and/or can find out. :love Title: Re: Brian Playing The Piano Footage Post by: silodweller on January 23, 2014, 05:51:09 AM Ah yes. Perhaps he could provide some info there. Thanks for your help though!
Title: Re: Brian Playing The Piano Footage Post by: guitarfool2002 on January 23, 2014, 08:24:43 AM There was a thread done not more than a year or so ago here where we dissected that, and it's as complete a history of it as you'll find. If I search the archives and find it before anyone else I'll post the link...stay tuned.
But the piano footage itself was not on the official "Inside Pop", and was silent. They dubbed the piano in the 1980's specifically for the AB doc using a piano player trying to match what keys it looked like Brian was playing in the silent film. I'll find it, there is some great stuff in that thread. Title: Re: Brian Playing The Piano Footage Post by: guitarfool2002 on January 23, 2014, 08:37:39 AM Found it! Click on this link and you'll see photos and stillframes from the film which I brightened to show more details, the exact piano clip in question here being one of them.
Notice too the shot of Brian walking on a car: Mark Bloome Tires is in the background, this was directly across from Columbia Studios and note the similar clothing from the film clip.
