Title: Beach Boys Survivor #18 WINNER!!!: Little Girl I Once Knew Post by: pixletwin on January 22, 2014, 03:28:20 PM Big thanks to Fall Breaks for putting together a viable list of songs to vote from. I will quote his disclaimer text:
Quote All songs legally released. Rounds not strictly defined by eras, since I wanted about an album’s length of songs in every round. May or may not work. No guarantee that I haven’t forgot to include some obscure track. You could argue that especially the 1969-1971 “suffers” from having too many strong tracks where only one can win, but then again, only one Pet Sounds track made it to the finals as well. Version specifications have to be made for some tracks, e.g. Can’t Wait Too Long and It’s A Beautiful Day). So... without further ado.... As usual, VOTE FOR YOUR LEAST FAVORITE SONG!!! I will tally votes on January 24 Graduation Day Ruby Baby Three Blind Mice Trombone Dixie The Little Girl I Once Knew With A Little Help From My Friends The Letter You’re Welcome Old Man River (Twofer version) Walk On By Mona Kana We’re Together Again Their Hearts Were Full Of Spring (1967) A Time To Live In Dreams Can’t Wait Too Long Sail Plane Song My least fave.... I am reconsidering The Letter. It appears to be a live recording and I kind of wanted these Survivors to focus on studio recordings.
Title: Re: Beach Boys Survivor #18: Odds 'n' Ends part Two 1965-68 Post by: alf wiedersehen on January 22, 2014, 04:37:30 PM "The Letter" is available on MiC. It's the "Lei'd in Hawaii" rehearsal version, which I'm pretty sure is the same as or is largely similar to the one on Rarities.

It appears to be a live recording and I kind of wanted these Survivors to focus on studio recordings. It's a studio recording. Probably. It's not a live recording, at least. Either way, no offense meant, but this is kind of a weird approach (excluding songs for the sake of having enough songs for an album, etc). Title: Re: Beach Boys Survivor #18: Odds 'n' Ends part Two 1965-68 Post by: pixletwin on January 22, 2014, 04:57:46 PM Okay. It's added. Thanks for the feedback folks. Title: Re: Beach Boys Survivor #18: Odds 'n' Ends part Two 1965-68 Post by: bluesno1fann on January 22, 2014, 05:01:35 PM "The Letter" is available on MiC. It's the "Lei'd in Hawaii" rehearsal version, which I'm pretty sure is the same as or is largely similar to the one on Rarities. There's the Lei'd in Hawaii rehearsal version, a version recorded live in the studio at Wally Heider Studios on 11th September 1967, and one session during the making of the Wild Honey album on 25th October 1967. The Rarities version is most likely the Wally Heider version, which is live in the studio. So it's up to Pixletwin to choose to get rid of it or not. I was thinking, because of the nature of these odds and ends track selections do you folks think I should do a tally once a day? Title: Re: Beach Boys Survivor #18: Odds 'n' Ends part Two 1965-68 Post by: Disney Boy (1985) on January 28, 2014, 11:49:38 AM Tally in 60 minutes. I was thinking, because of the nature of these odds and ends track selections do you folks think I should do a tally once a day? Yeah these rounds aren't as fun as doing the albums - let's get 'em over and done with. Or we could just all agree that this Odds & Ends 2 should be Little Girl I Once Knew and Odds & Ends 3 should be Wouldn't It Be Nice To Live Again, then we can just concentrate on sorting out Odds & Ends 1 and move onto Sunflower and Surf's Up, which are going to be a blast!! Title: Re: Beach Boys Survivor #18: Odds 'n' Ends part Two 1965-68 Post by: pixletwin on January 28, 2014, 12:16:18 PM Big thanks to Fall Breaks for putting together a viable list of songs to vote from.
It looks like With a little more VOTES from it's friends this song would've last longer. It may be less than a minute long and obviously never finished, but it's one of the most beautiful songs ever put on record by Brian, Dennis and the Beach Boys! Hell, I'd even say that Walk On By is more beautiful than the entire Pet Sounds album! It should definitely make it to the finals alongside The Little Girl I Once Knew and Sail Plane Song! It may be less than a minute long and obviously never finished, but it's one of the most beautiful songs ever put on record by Brian, Dennis and the Beach Boys! I'd have to agree with you there. Painfully exquisite vocals. I also agree. Wonderful vocals on that song. I'm assuming it's only being voted for due to its length. They played a prank in which they substituted each mention of the word "heart" in a song title for "penis". Some of them were really funny, but I'd say "The Beach Boys - Their Penises Were Full of Spring" was probably my favourite. Alack, voting today is not grounded in lowbrow humour potential so regretfully I'm going to have to vote for it along with "We're Together Again".

When he left to serve, he was 17 and my grandmother, a girl down the street from him was 6--when he returned from service, he was 28 and she was 17--she wasn't the little girl he once knew. 70+ years later my grandfather has passed on, but he left behind 6 children, 8 grandchildren, and a wealth of memories. Title: Re: Beach Boys Survivor #18 FINAL ROUND: Odds 'n' Ends part Two 1965-68 Post by: feelsflow on February 09, 2014, 12:11:27 PM A very easy choice...
. "The Little Girl I Once Knew" . Again, looks like my favorite on this list will win. I think "Sail Plane Song" and "Walk On By" should have been in the Final though. the bridge... oh god... (specially after listening to an excellent and powerful stereo version by someone on this board) Title: Re: Beach Boys Survivor #18 FINAL ROUND: Odds 'n' Ends part Two 1965-68 Post by: Les P on February 09, 2014, 06:23:42 PM Can't Wait Too Long. I love TLGIOK, but I have an inexplicable obsession with CWTL rivaled only by my fascination with SMiLE. I think just the tag snags this one for me.

Title: Re: Beach Boys Survivor #18: Odds 'n' Ends part Two 1965-68 Post by: pixletwin on February 11, 2014, 11:16:44 AM Big thanks to Fall Breaks for putting together a viable list of songs to vote from.
With only 4 votes some folks Waited Too Long. (http://www.sideshowcollectors.com/forums/images/smilies/survivor.gif) With 7 votes for Old Man River, a few more people must know something we dont.(http://www.sideshowcollectors.com/forums/images/smilies/survivor.gif) Finally, with an overwhelming 26 votes, the Winnder of Odds and Ends part 2 of BEACH BOYS SURVIVOR is.... The Little Girl I Once Knew Round#1 - Ruby Baby January 24 Round#2 - Three Blind Mice January 26 Round#3 - With A Little Help From My Friends January 28 Round#4 - Graduation Day January 29 Round#5 - The Letter January 31 Round#5 - You’re Welcome January 31 Round#6 - Trombone Dixie February 3 Round#6 - Mona Kana February 3 Round#7 - Walk On By February 4 Round#7 - A Time To Live In Dreams February 4 Round#8 - We’re Together Again February 6 Round#8 - Their Hearts Were Full Of Spring (1967) February 6 Round#9 - Sail Plane Song February 8 Round#10 - Can’t Wait Too Long February 11 Round#10 - Old Man River (Twofer version) February 11 Join me for all new rounds of BEACH BOYS SURVIVOR to begin in a few hours!!!
