Title: Live in Japan 2012
Post by: dellydel on January 10, 2014, 08:00:51 AM
What the heck is this official looking recording?

Has anyone watched both this one and the American release?  How do they compare?

I would love to be able to see this. But. I got a message saying this was blocked in the US.

If M&B they'd get him to guest with them instead of Stamos!!! He'd sound really good on some of Carl or Brian's original leads.

Wow. Thanks for posting this, dellydel. I enjoyed this concert when it was posted a few months ago, but I was blown away again! I start to watch it, and think I'll watch a few more songs, and I can't stop watching it!

Just a great mix; why couldn't the released CD sound like this? You can actually pick out the voices in the harmonies. Great camera work, not those really quick cuts that drive you crazy. John Cowsill is incredible; he drives so many of these songs, and he's mixed way up front which is good. I think "Why Do Fools Fall In Love" - of all songs - is the best performed. Mike actually gets stronger as the concert progresses. That version of "Don't Worry, Baby" is great.  I still don't like where "California Girls" is/was placed in the set, and David should've been turned up. But....

Then there's Brian...His hair was disheveled, his body language was tired, and sometimes he sat there playing the piano with one hand while his other hand/arm dangled at his side - but I thought he looked so normal! Did you notice the look on his face when he gazed at the screen while Carl sang "God Only Knows". I almost lost it for a second. But, Brian WAS playing (while not that audible) real parts on the piano as well as singing a lot of audible harmony parts. And, his leads were right on, not too forced and not too shouty. His timing appeared to be right on. He didn't have the deer-in-the-headlights look. He had a nice, relaxed look, like he was just "hanging out" and enjoying playing along with the guys, not like he was in a hurry to leave.

Man, I really enjoyed that. It was so impressive. I only listened to the released 50th Anniversary Concert CD two times; it is that upsetting. I can't sit through it. What a waste. It took 'em how many years to redo the 1973 In Concert album. Can they speed it up with the 2013 one?

I'm in Atlanta and it won't play.  Got a message that it was "blocked".

Probably something to do with anti-southerner bias, as it plays just fine here in St. Louis MO

Can one save a YouTube movie and burn it onto DVD?

Very curious about this. I know nothing about it, so if anyone knows, please tell it stepwise...

Tks in advance, THD.

Use this: http://vdownloader.com

Works incredibly well. You have the option to download video or audio, so ripping the audio from a concert is an option as well. It downloads incredibly quickly too. Hope this works for you, I use it all the time.

Great, thanks very mucho!

I am officially studying/working at the mo; and I decided to, um, 'dip' into the Japan show. I was instantaneously hooked, and stayed for about 45 mins., mesmerized. It's that good. And Cowsill is key in the whole enterprise - I rarely heard any drummer at comparable occasions who was so sensitive about 'what's right? how to approach?'. He shows respect throughout, but not in the sense of too much reverence, as in: I am kind of a curator of some musical legacy at the moment. He drums with guts, energy, drive, to create an absolute 'here and now' feel... and nice new fills here and there too, to spice things up a bit.

In brief: a revelation, this whole thing.

Don. Easy to put on to memory a stick to plug into a newer TV or any computer. This coming from someone who knows didley squat about downloading!

^^ Cheers for that too! Will do some, um, 'experimenting' tomorrow then, and here's hoping that I won't turn the University server into a smoking pile of rubble and ashes...
