Title: from the professor Re: history of music in LA bibliography
Post by: the professor on December 13, 2013, 08:27:45 AM
sad state of affairs that B and M can't show pictures of the boys during their shows. . . .thinking of how I felt last year when the main issue of the moment was how good my seats were at Irvine and what freeway to take to get to the BB shows. . .

I am about to get on a plane and plan to listen to 6 hours of BB music, finding refuge in the past because the future is so bleak. .

I want to end the year with questions and observations:

1. TWGMTR is better than many of us had thought. Now, 2 years later, it's a sweet melodious, contemplative record head to toe that should be listened to over and over again, driving, on the beach, grading papers (you supply the tasks); it reaches the heart.
Question: did we ever get a full accounting of musical and parts? Even confirm Dave playing on Strange World, as he claimed he did though he is un-credited? Sax on the title cut, etc.

2. Are Mike and Brian talking?  What force, what agent, if any, has an interest in "more reunion shows" and another album? I would liek to have something to hope for in the new year.

3. to the announced topic itself: Planning to teach a class about the BB, Doors, and Richie Valens, so I plan to do some critical thinking and reading on that musical nexus in LA; any bibliographic references would be appreciated. Sad, tragic and joyous all at once.

best and thanks to all for the Holidays from The Professor.

That is really cool you are going to teach a BBs class, maybe get Alan Boyd or AGD  ;D to lecture.

Mike & Brian are constantly talking - just, not to each other right now. I think, barring a seismic shift in support systems, the reunion is a closed book. As it should be. The only "force" with a vested interested in prolonging it would be us, here.

M&B are playing the Hampton Court festival two days previously (June 24th). Hopefully, they'll be better than Brian was in 2005.
