Title: Stephen Sondheim
Post by: Rocky Raccoon on December 10, 2013, 09:13:34 PM
As Beach Boys fans, we've all heard the term "musical genius" thrown around a lot but one person I think that rings true for is Stephen Sondheim.  There was recently a fantastic HBO documentary about his life called Six by Sondheim that I absolutely suggest checking out.  But anyways, I've long admired Sondheim's works, particularly Company and Sweeney Todd.  He also wrote lyrics with Leonard Bernstein for West Side Story which I believe is the greatest musical ever written.  Anybody else here a Sondheim fan?

Going through a major Sondheim phase right now, and yes, the documentary is amazing. It's on the streaming services and YouTube right now. Great stuff. And he's still active and writing a new musical right now, at age 84. Amazing.

I got that big West Side Story DVD box set - including the script - for Christmas a couple of years ago and vaguely remembered the name.. Gotta check out the documentary if you guys say it's good. :)
