Title: A mute function?
Post by: roll plymouth rock on December 10, 2013, 03:29:23 AM
Some of the members who post on here go on really annoying long rants. A lot of us who have been on here a long time have to read through this nonsense in threads where there is still interesting discussion happening

On tumblr you can "mute" particular users so their posts don't appear in your threads anymore.....any chance this board would be able to implement something like this?  ;)

I would personally never 'mute' anyone as to not miss out on any discussion, but this seems to be something that has been asked for for quite a while.

An alternative to never seeing a specific user's posts at all is for the 'muted' posts to be automatically collapsed on whatever thread you're in, keeping you able to see them if you wanted to.

May have been here, maybe was on A. N. Other forum, but somewhere there used to be an "ignore" button: we could use that function right now.

What's your definition of anoyingly long?

My defintion is the length of your rant, as above.

Just asking.

Just people who post a few paragraphs every 5 or 10 comments on a thread, not really adding to the discourse in any given thread - rather sort of repeating their own viewpoint & flooding us with annoying posts. I think a mute or collapsed comment thing would be fairest because each member could set a mute on someone whose posts have bugged them or whatever. idk just an idea

:rock  Great sentiment and idea: caters for the events when a "douche"/asshat or noob poster stumbles upon an untapped vein of thought - good one - A

You see, the "noobs" can differ too, among them as many knowledgeable fans as among the veterans. What's that they say, "Don't treat all alike"? Right.

Exactly....we're all different here & some peoples views click really well with others whereas some can be really grating to read for others. If we were able to filter things for ourselves I think this board could avoid some of the flame wars it seems to incite
