Title: The New Van Dyke Parks Single
Post by: Peter Reum on November 29, 2013, 03:02:56 PM
Friends of mine are invited to the newest entry in my blog, Reuminations, at blogspot.com,  which covers the new Van Dyke Parks single, newly released on ITunes. Titles are I'm History and Charm School. The single may be previewed at Spotify. There is a link to hear an early live version of I'm History at Reuminations.

Interesting interview with VDP from last month at:

http://noisey.vice.com/blog/van-dyke-parks-has-a-lot-to-say

which has something I hadn't read before - Van Dyke says that "three years ago" Mothers of Invention drummer Jimmy Carl Black (who died almost five years ago) called him up and asked if he'd join  yet another lineup of the Grandmothers.

Which is rather a surprise - Van Dyke was in the Mothers only for a short time in '65, and he isn't even mentioned in most of the books about Zappa and the band. Still, it would have been interesting to see him onstage with Jimmy and some of the other exes.

I saw the Grandmothers about 10 years ago. Great performance! Would be could to see Van involved. Is Van on any of the Mothers albums? I don't think he is but I could be wrong...
