I think all BB/Brian fans agree that video is a gem. I also loved seeing it on the big C50 screen during the live show.

I wonder why Mike was wearing gloves.

Anyway, that video really makes me wish there were more videos available of them -- especially in their prime.  SMiLE era.  Hangin' in the tent.  I'm sure Brian has home movies.  The Beatles were making movies.  What did Brian have up his sleeve?

Nice, Good find Andrew, our historical watcher.  I can't recall the last time I saw this.  Has it ever been put on an official video/dvd?  PBS13 is a New York station.   aside:  When I read this back, it reminded me of the first time I met John Martyn, that's what he signed -Watcher, - now I've used it in a sentence. 8)

I like Good Vibrations, but not as much as the Pet Sounds songs, mostly because the lyrics, which I find just as shallow as Surfin' USA. I like the early Beach Boys, but for some reason I find the lyrics of Good Vibrations particularly grating.

Gimme Wouldn't It Be Nice or Caroline No any day.

Thanks Rocky,  When that was listed last year I passed on it.  Is there anything else historical worth having?  So like the suits to bleed us, why didn't they put it on Endless Harmony?  Any more Videos, like on Sights and Sounds? Did they even make any videos for TWGMTR, I don't go close to MTV :lol.    I put it on my wish list and will look into it more.  They were putting out so much stuff during the reunion, I just thought it was more hype.  Bet those 'zine-packs are still around.  Yikes!  Unless there is more than the one track, I'll wait til it's a fiver.

The GV film reels weren't available for the Endless Harmony DVD in 1998 as they were only recently discovered.

Here's the official TWGMTR video:

That video of 'Good Vibrations" is one of the greatest things I've ever seen. Period.

GV is a song, to some extent, of seduction, and the meaningful nexus (connection) of a lyric to a music measure is what gives a song "legs" - otherwise Brian's music might never have archived it's greatness.  Keeping concepts simple, and cognizably "available" on an intellectual level, promotes widespread appeal, and popularity.  It was experimental music for its time, and the lyrics made it universally attractive to all.  It is the ultimate convergence of the complex and the simple.

Probably a good doctoral thesis concept.  In that respect, one must give Mike his props, because without a simple and understandable lyric, had the song been a beautiful instrumental, you don't get the "personal engagement" aspect of music. It is almost like having a conversation.  And, why speech therapists use music to reconnect brain pathways for brain injured people.  Cong. Gabby Giffords used music to relearn to speak after she was shot.  Simple to complex.

Beach Boys'  music is what many Downs Syndrome children and adults use, everyday.  The melody gets their attention, and the lyrics help with articulation.  And, it's fun.

Gabo - if you can detach the whole personality thing, and just look at the work, objectively, it is very easy to find merit all around.  It should not matter, if you don't care for Mike. His work is meritorious, along the career continuum.

Serious students can "separate the personality from the work."  ;)

I wonder why Mike was wearing gloves.

He didn't want to leave his fingerprints when he killed SMiLE! :-D

Thanks for pointing out this video for us, Andrew, that's a great thing to watch.

Better? Hmm... there are a few tracks on Pet Sounds I like better than GV, but of course that's all purely subjective.

I probably only had that one dollar, at the time.  ;)

It probably would be worth some dough, now.   :lol

Although I couldn't give a crap what Rolling Stone thinks, they did rank Good Vibrations as the 6th best song of all time. It ranked higher than any Beatles' song (with the exception of John Lennon's Imagine).

I love this footage so very much.  In fact, I downright treasure it!

The only thing in a similar (albeit entirely hypothetical) vein I think I could ever appreciate more would be film of the Beatles recording "Strawberry Fields Forever" in Abbey Road, but that's neither here nor there.

From where I stand, for the purposes of the Beach Boys, the uncovering of these particular moving pictures was tantamount to unearthing the Holy Grail.  Bonus points for the way in which the band utilized the footage during the live renditions of "Good Vibrations" on the C50 tour, as well.

Not that anyone asked, but as a personal aside, Andrew, I have to say that I really like this side of you - the fan coming out of you.  It's much more endearing than that 'crotchety old man with a hard-on for correcting people' act you like to put on.  :D

Yes, you're much more charming this way, methinks.

Still bewildering.

Anyway, this footage is a treasure. Brian looks so FREAKIN' COOL!! They all did, actually.

Thanks very much for posting this again, Andrew...it would be hard to imagine how impoverished life would be without this perfectly transcendent piece of "avant garde R&B." A gift that keeps on giving and will never stop doing so...
