Title: Alternate Track Listing
Post by: Surfer on September 11, 2013, 07:34:55 PM
What would Surfin Safari Album had an Alternate Track Listing!  What would your track listing be for the Surfin Safari Album

I dunno, what would yours be, Surfer?

Do you mean with different songs? If so, can we include those songs with Brian on them that aren't really Beach Boys songs (The Kenny and the Cadets ones)? Cuz then it'd be something like:

Surfin Safari
County Fair
Little Girl
Chug-A-Lug
Barbie
409
Surfin'
Luau
Heads I Win Tails You Lose
Cindy, Oh Cindy
Cuckoo Clock
Land Ahoy

Mine would be this

Surfin
Surfin USA
Surfin Safari
Surf Jam
Noble Surfer
Surfer Girl
Surfer's Rule
South Bay Surfer
Rocking Surfer
Catch A Wave
Still Surfin
Don't Back Down

So.....the premise of this thread is "alternate track listing for the Surfin' Safari album", right? So since this album we're talking about was released in early October, 1962, wouldn't the alternate track listing be for songs recorded up to the point of the album release (pre-October '62)? That's what an alternate track listing means to me - songs that were already recorded that were possible candidates for inclusion on the album (or outtakes) instead of the released ones.

Surfer, you listed songs released in 1963 and 1964 that weren't even written yet. So how could they have been "alternate tracks" for an album released in 1962?

Still Surfin'. Wasn't that on the Summer In Paradise album, released in 1992? Can't see that as being an alternate song for the Surfin' Safari album......

You really should've contributed liner notes for the boxed set. I want more album track listings annotated this way. Sometimes I'm not sure what these early songs are actually about and you just cut to the chase. "Song about Indians." Ahhhh. yes.

Please do the other albums this way.

Jeez, ease up. The guy isn't as knowledgeable as you, so you want him banned? He obviously likes surfing songs, so he chose surfing songs to create his "ideal" surfing album.

Have you seen this guys posts before? He's totally full of sh*t and is just trolling. I have no problem with people who like to become more knowledgeable about The Beach Boys. We all had to start somewhere. But this guy is obviously just taking the piss.

Reason being "409" would appear on "Little Deuce Coupe" anyway.

Title: Re: Alternate Track Listing
Post by: Mikie on September 19, 2013, 02:53:42 PM
Nah, Louie was Louie Marotta, who was a neighbor of the Wilson's and Mark's. Lived in the same neighborhood all those years and passed away a couple of years before the Beach Boys Hawthorne Monument Dedication Ceremony. David recounted stories about sitting on the curb and lighting farts with Louie and I think didn't Dennis, after fighting with Murry, sleep in the back of Louie's Dad's car and take it for a spin one night? I forget that story.

"Guy" had might as well have been Mike. Guess it was just made up.

Aquaintance of the Wilson's: "DENNIS WILSON TRADED HIS 63 STINGRAY FOR A 64 JAG COSTING $7400. HE GOT $1600 TRADE-IN FOR HIS 63 STINGRAY. DAVID MARKS HAD A MGC, I THINK IT WAS A 6 BANGER. HE BLEW THE ENGINE ON EL SEGUNDO BLVD. LOUIE MAROTTA AND I TOWED IT TO LOUIE'S HOUSE. LOUIE BOUGHT IT FOR $105 AND RESTORED IT".

From an ex Hawthorne cop: I stopped a vehicle one night for making an unsafe lane change just north of 136th St. on the Blvd. The driver got out of the vehicle, came back & was very nice, I had his license & was about ready to advise him & kick him loose. About this time an older male got out of the passenger side & started to chew me out, saying "Don't you know who we are!!" ETC, ETC. The driver kept trying to get him to shut up, anyway, the driver got a ticket. Afterwards, I found out it was one of the Wilson boys (Beach Boys) & the Running of the Lips was his dad!"

Doesn't make sense that "Mike" would be in the song, 'cause Mike was singin'! That, I think is the explanation as to why Mike isn't included in the name checks. He's the narrator, talking about everyone else. The song was written for Mike to sing.

I always interpreted the "Guy's" in "Chug-a-Lug" as "Guys," as in collective bunch of guys - not a single person named "Guy."

BTW I own Louie Marotta's 1959 Hawthorne High "El Molino" yearbook with Brian and Al's senior pics.  And it's signed by Dennis...

No name like that on the AFM sheets.
