Title: Mike Love article on Noisey
Post by: chrs_mrgn on August 30, 2013, 09:36:40 PM
I don't want to start another Mike Love feud but I searched for this article on the forum and didn't see it posted.

It's a laughable and poorly written opinion piece from someone at VICE. I was just wondering how many of these things are true?

Again, laughably bad. Maybe this guy is on the forum now!

A sure sign you're reading a well written article...the author uses the phrase: "but hear me out."

People writing sh*t like this are only ginning up sympathy for Mike. I truly feel sorry for him after reading something as wack as this dribble.

I think it's weird that people get upset at Mike praising the Smile material in that video.

They would still bash him if he said he didn't like it, it's like they want him to fit their satanic image of him and it upsets them when he actually says something nice?  Yeesh.  Just because he acted like a dick to Van Dyke Parks (who as much as I respect can come off as just as pompous and smug as Mike) doesn't mean he didn't like the music.  And even if he didn't initially like it, he sure as hell sucked it up enough to sing it.  I think that shows loyalty if anything.

Mike's comment about who's gonna hear this sh*t isn't referring to the song they were trying to record. Rather that Brian was drilling him during that session with numerous takes until the phrasing of each line, was to Brian's liking. "Ears of a dog" isn't quite accurate of an analogy but basically he was saying Brian, no one is going to notice these little details -- not that the song was crap.
