MADE IN CALIFORNIA
AN EXCLUSIVE BEACH BOYS EXHIBIT AT
THE FENDER VISITOR CENTER

The Beach Boys' haunting harmonies have been integral to the evolution of the West Coast sound and the carefree mentality of 1960s California surf culture. Their celebrated catalog, including the experimental 1966 milestone Pet Sounds, has also been lauded as one of the most ambitious and influential studio efforts in rock ‘n’ roll history.

To commemorate the release of the Beach Boys’ 50th anniversary box set retrospective, Made in California, the Fender Visitor Center is exhibiting an impressive collection of Beach Boys memorabilia, including a reproduction of the band’s iconic striped shirts and a custom-built replica of the surfboard featured on the cover of the early ’60s LPs “Surfin' Safari” and “Surfer Girl.”

Period-correct Fender guitars inspired by those on the historic 1964 Beach Boys Concert LP, along with rare vintage photography of Beach Boys guitarist Carl Wilson touring the Fender factory, will also be on display.

This limited engagement features artwork from renowned illustrator John Van Hamersveld, the creative mind behind the album art for the Beatles' Magical Mystery Tour, the Rolling Stones’ Exile on Main Street and the Endless Summer film soundtrack.

That is awesome! I'd love to see the photos. I had never seen photos of Carl in the 60's touring Fender, but do have one of Carl and Ricky Fataar touring Fender in the early 70's when they got another endorsement and were soon pictured playing all kinds of new Fender gear.

The history of Fender and the Beach Boys especially in the 60's is interconnected in some ways, it's great to see something like this being celebrated and on display.

PS...if you were to currently own and sell those Fender instruments showing sticking out of those bins in the 60's photo, you could put a nice down payment on a house with the profits.  ;D

Very cool.  I'd love to check that out.  Carl at the factory right before CBS bought Fender.

Have never seen that picture with Carl at Fender before.

Now, while we're at it, where's that Al Jardine signature guitar reproduction that Fender promised a few years ago?

That photo of Carl makes me think of a kid in a candy store. He looks mighty happy to be there.
