Title: We lost two great ones today...
Post by: Sheriff John Stone on August 10, 2013, 06:38:19 PM
It is another sad day in the music world. Two great artists with completely different backgrounds and resumes passed away today. Eydie Gorme', wife and singing partner of Steve Lawrence, passed away at age 84, and Willie Nelson's long-time guitarist, Jody Payne, died today at age 77. I loved their music. R.I.P. Eydie and Jody....

I wasn't aware until I saw it in his obituary that "Cowboy" Jack Clement produced Johnny Cash's "Ring Of Fire". Great record obviously...

it was 'Cowboy' who arranged the Mexican trumpets on that, the trademark hook of that song..... I think John Cash insisted Jack produce
the song......... Jack took over the reins from Don Law I think, changed the mic on the snare and a couple things, and bingo!

it was also Jack who decided to run the tape and arrange some mics and record the million dollar quartet........ good thinkin hey?...

he has a great documentary out, I highly recommend it for anyone who likes recording and good humour.....

its called 'George jones was a shakespere fan'......

I'm a big fan of Eydie Gorme. Not many singers cover the bases from blues (of the Don Costa-arranged variety) to pop to old-school Latin to grunge (such as her and Steve Lawrence's Soundgarden cover, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=55rtXg0ZsLE) but she could do it all with style.

A short while after Jody Payne died, Willie honored his memory with a fine performance of the whole Stardust album at the Hollywood Bowl:
