Title: Wow Rare late 70's concert vid just posted on the tube Post by: If Mars had life on it... on August 05, 2013, 04:03:37 PM http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3N1E78ybG5I
Can anyone date this for me? It sure as heck isn't 1972 I know. I'm thinking 1977 right? Isn't this one of THE most dysfunctional periods in the band's history? Is this when Brian was writing the Adult Child stuff? Jan 1977. These two shows circulate among fans in excellent video quality, this download looks pretty bad.Can anyone date this for me? It sure as heck isn't 1972 I know. I'm thinking 1977 right? Never thought they were dysfunctional until about 5 or 6 years down the road. Can anyone date this for me? It sure as heck isn't 1972 I know. I'm thinking 1977 right? Were some shots used for the American Band/Endless Harmony docs? Endless Harmony had a shot of Brian in a blue long sleeved shirt. I hear he was a bit better at that show too. I like seeing them do such rare songs, but man what a drop off from their summer 1976 shows.Title: Re: Wow Rare late 70's concert vid just posted on the tube Post by: metal flake paint on August 06, 2013, 04:07:23 AM Portrait of a legend, hosted by James Darren, features some of the January 21, 1977 Largo footage that was uploaded recently. The "Portrait..." footage looks relatively clean compared to other circulating versions. Snippets include:
Good Vibrations - Largo audio and video Rock and Roll Music - Largo audio and video Sloop John B - Largo audio and video However, some of the Largo video snippets were married to audio from other live performances. For example: California Girls, Largo vision, Live in London audio Good Vibrations (again), Largo vision, In Concert audio Probably the most bizarre combination of audio/video used during the show is the TAMI version of Surfin' U.S.A. combined with the In Concert audio. The live audio has been considerably sped up to sync with Dennis's fast paced drumming ;D Again, Audree and Murry Wilson are misrepresented with that photo of Virginia and Donald Jardine :o Title: Re: Wow Rare late 70's concert vid just posted on the tube Post by: Ian on August 06, 2013, 05:27:26 AM As we discuss in the recent book Jon Stebbins and I wrote (The Beach Boys In Concert), the DC show was taped off of the jumbo-tron feed that the venue was using. This was the beginning of venues using them and only a few had them at that point. The BBs 1978 show in Houston was also filmed for the jumbotron (the footage in American Band of Brian singing In My Room is from this 1978 show).
