Wow, that looks nothing like Dennis. At least with other ones, I can see some sort of resemblance..

If Paul Dano doesn't talk out of the side of his mouth, I'm getting a refund.

That's guy facial structure is similar. They both have "smaller" faces.

That same thought passed through my mind though: "It's as is if The Beach Boys were a group of singing models."

Whereas in reality they were one of the most unconventional looking groups around: tall, awkward Brian; cheesy, balding Mike; short, goofy Al; cute, chubby Carl; handsome, wild Dennis. One Direction they most certainly were not. The photos above however would lead you to believe otherwise...

So is the ways of Hollywood...

Ha, that immediately reminded me of a spoof article I once read in a humour magazine, in which they described Leonardo Di Caprio as 'too-small-faced Titantic star Leonardo Di Caprio'. It made me laugh for about a week.  

Who's playing Dennis and who's playing Mike?

After they're through playing the Beach Boys, the same cast will be portraying Take That. ;D

I was thinking much the same thing -- casting the Beach Boys as the original boy band -- never mind whether the actors bear any physical resemblance to the real-life person they're portraying.

Judging by the casting, this movie is gonna blow chunks!

Why don't they just cast Justin Bieber as Dennis Wilson in The Drummer.  :lol

I guess if the movie is about Brian Wilson, it doesn't really matter who's playing the rest of the beach boys. If they're casting a Melinda and Landry, I assume we're going to see a lot more of him, and not so much of the boys. So if their casting doesn't matter much to the story, then it might be high on their priority list to cast people that look like them. Also, if Cusack is playing older Brian, I guess we should see who they're casting as the older beach boys. Those might be the more important roles to worry about.

I hate to be harsh but these actors look nothing like the people there playing.

But, what you're seeing here are the actors in glamour mode. If they're good actors, though, they can adopt the look and mannerisms of the characters they portray.  Actors have been known to gain weight for roles, and the right make up and costuming can do wonders. Just because they look "pretty" here, doesn't mean they won't more accurately represent the band on screen.

They need to find an actor that looks more leprechaun-like to play Jardine.
We also need a more handsome Denny because there should be no way in hell Mike Love stands out over that beautiful surfer hunk.

I have my ideas for the name of this boy band...one direction, nsync, backstreet boys, new kids on the block, the wanted!

I've conferred with AGD and can indeed confirm that these are not the Beach Boys like you may suspect but the actors for "Love and Mercy"! I know, I know... I was fooled at first too!

Ha. That's ridiculous.

Good to see how standards established in the 90s have influenced the casting of a band from the 60s.

the actors are slightly too good looking for this. Dennis would never approve of these prettyboys being the faces of the beach boys in the 21st century. However lets not judge what may be a rather nice film by this alone!

Dano was still a good choice and Carl isn't too bad imo. Al and Mike are far, far too good looking. Dennis isn't good enough looking. They need a real surfer hunk for this.
Perhaps this is part of Myke Luhv's attempt to rewrite history where he was the lead singer as well as having all of Dennis' looks and hip credentials.

I think they're all fine except Graham Rogers as Al. I just can't see it.

Oh well, I could care less what any of them look like, as long as they can act the part, I'm good with the casting.

Actually, the actor cast as Dennis should switch roles with the actor cast as Al (and vice versa).  
With the right hair, clothes and acting ability (the only one here that rings a bell for me is Dano) it might just be okay.

What makes "The Beach Boys" different than a boy band is that boy-bands are manufactured commodities, whereas the Beach Boys was (at its inception) an organic phenomenon: brothers, cousin, neighbors making music, singing about their adolescent lifestyles and they captured the fancy of the worldwide public with some good management and easy promotion.

They were not "pretty boys" but good-looking in their own way, very American and distinct, and it was the quality of the music itself that made the band, especially after the initial launch.

Boy bands are very calculated productions designed to appeal to the repressed sexuality and fantasies of school-girls and the music is by-the-numbers formula with a definite expiration date: the first time I heard a One Direction song (not by choice), it seemed like a retread of the nineties (Compare: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4fndeDfaWCg and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y1xs_xPb46M); these guys didn't know each other until a casting call for a TV show, so there's a very calculating factor happening that makes it very different from a sing-along in the living room that became a successful family business.

I am very curious to see how the biopic is produced: from the actors involved now, it seems like a blatant attempt to market "The Beach Boys" in a way that makes them visually-competitive among a young generation. I suspend judgment until I see the final product, but its looks like blasphemy so far...

These kind of things, like the excesive auto-tune in the BBs last works, are giving me the chills (in a very bad way).
