Title: List of Blondie Chaplin and Ricky Fataar era Beach Boys songs
Post by: bluesno1fann on July 10, 2013, 02:36:48 AM
Other than "Carl and the Passions - "So Tough"" and "Holland", of course.
I would like to know more about the unreleased tracks from that period, as I only know of "We Got Love" and "Carry Me Home"

You can start here:

Some outtakes of Out In The Country have popped up on the internet. As for the other tracks recorded during the C&tP So Tough sessions: if recordings still exist, they haven't seen the light of day yet (as far as I know).

I know "Carry Me Home" is Dennis's song. Sorry for making you misunderstand, but what I meant to say was Blondie Chaplin and Ricky Fataar era songs, they don't necessarily have to be by them

Would "I've Got a Friend" count?

How would "I've Got A Friend" count? Dennis wrote it and Dennis sang it. Ricky mighta played drums on it but that's it.

"Carry Me Home". Blondie sang lead and maybe Ricky played drums.

Blondie and Ricky were hard done by re record releases. The best song written by them (Hard Times) or the best song sung by them (Carry Me Home) were both left in the vaults.

Like bluesno1fann said in an earlier post, these are just songs from the Blondie-Ricky era (i.e. 1972-1974). The songs in this thread aren't necessarily written by the Fataar-Chaplin team, but they were somehow involved with them.

It's from that era. It doesn't have to be their song, as long as it was made when they were members. That was the whole point of the question

I think that's a Flames song, not a Beach Boys song

But the song was produced by Carl Wilson. And engineered by the Beach Boys engineer. After Blondie Chaplin and Ricky Fataar left The Flame to join The Beach Boys, this song was played in their concerts in the early 70s.

Does anyone know how complete any of those post-Holland sessions are? Songs like "Dr.Tom", "Canyon Summer", and "Pattycake"? (Also Rooftop Harry, but that was earlier and also for Spring??)

Blondie's vocal on It's A New Day is great, too.

There was a nice article, which I believe was posted here some time ago, that gave a firsthand account of the "Rooftop Harry" session. Here 'tis:

Thanks for that link, Dave--very interesting to say the least! From this account, it seems less likely that "Rooftop Harry" was a track intended for Spring, given the very vocal presence of Bruce Johnston at the session. I'm going strictly by memory here (always dangerous, of course, and I will take correction from AGD should it be necessary...), but I don't recall Bruce having anything to do with the Spring stuff.

The date that AGD lists for the session (4/15/72) looks like about the time that Bruce departed from the band. Could that (at least partially) explain the display of hyperbolic behavior that's reported in the reminiscence? Based on what we've all read elsewhere, of course, this description can still easily fall within the parameters of JACNWTBB (Just Another Crazy Night With The Beach Boys).
