Title: Re: The Grass Roots Post by: guitarfool2002 on June 25, 2013, 08:55:22 AM Another classic hit-making band which made some really great singles, but one that had to walk that fine line between what fans thought and what the musicians knew was behind the songs like "Midnight Confessions", where the hired studio guns were doing the tracks and the "band" had to make TV appearances miming to those songs other musicians had played.
Ultimately it's all about the songs, and they can be, at their best, phenomenal radio songs that still cut through and sound like hits. I've recently gotten back into the Grass Roots through some of the added attention of having former band member Creed Bratton getting some attention from the TV show "The Office" ending it's TV run a few weeks ago. Wondering if more people went looking for Grass Roots music because of Creed's role on the Office and all the attention on the series finale? Was there a spike in iTunes sales or anything similar after that finale? It was inside the wall... anyways, my absolute favorite record out of all of them was "Midnight Confessions". I used to play it over and over again, I was about 10 at the time, lol
Yeah, I was a weird kid. I honestly , thinking back, didnt' even understand the song. I think I just liked how it rocked, and had a good bassline. I kind of like the casual way it's written, it's got a real informal lyric. "there's a lil' gold ring, you wear on your hand, makes me understan.... there's a man heah before me, you'll neva be mine, i'm wastin' my time!" If it's got a good beat and you can dance to it..or sing along in "kiss this guy" style!Yeah, I was a weird kid. I honestly , thinking back, didnt' even understand the song.
